Severe Chronic Diarrhea - Help Needed Asap!

Posted By Carol (La Verne, CA) on 05/08/2008

I've had chronic diarrhea for over 20 years. This happened after I had taken 8 months of Prozac. I've also had chlamydia for 20 years. Just found this out. My doctor has me on Nystat and Doxycycline. I've been taking Imodium to stop the diarrhea. Four to six pills a day, this dosage had lasted for about 7 years. In April 2007 I got a viral infection giving me a fever and my Imodium pill consumption had to be raised from 20-30 tablets a day. I know this is not possible but with me it is. I have severe mal-absorption. I've done all tests possible to find the cause of the diarrhea and nothing shows. One doctor says it might be an overgrowth of bacteria from my colon that migrated to my small intestine which they cure with a drug called Rifaximin. But the moment I started the drug I get worse diarrhea. I'm malnurished, dehydrated and anemic. I've tried all the Earth Clinic remedies, nothing helps. I am running out of time. I'll be dead by december 2008 if nothing is found to help. Anyone with any comments or answers are welcome. I have a 7 year old son I need to take care of.

I don't know where you live, but you may want to contact the D'Adamo Institute in New Hampshire. You can do some primilimary research on their web-site.

I'm so sorry you are so sick. I think you should look into two things: first food intolerances, especially gluten.

Second, and much more important is to overhaul your diet to something rich and nutritious, not the standard American diet, nor even the "healthy" American diet. Get a copy of Nourishing Traditions from your library and read up on what your body actually needs. You would probably benefit greatly from lacto-fermented foods and drinks and other things which build up intestinal flora. Read this for a start: http://www.westonaprice.org/moderndiseases/digestion_primer.html

This article is by the authors of the book I mentioned. I pray you heal thoroughly and quickly and end your suffering.

I had the exact symptoms you have. I was sent to Cleveland Clinic. My intestinal flora was out of balance. Probiotics helped me the most. Try to slowly get off all meds and take probiotics only. Also, have you been tested for c-difficile infection? If you have ever taken high doses of antibiotics or steroids, this can lead to and intestinal imbalance. Hope this helps you and you and your son are in my prayers.
