Seeking remedies for crohns and hypothyroidism

Posted By Kairey (Il) on 06/02/2015

Hello EC,

My husband has been diagnosed with crohns 7 years ago. He has to undergo surgery to remove part of his intestine (10inches). He has been on medicine (multivitamin, folic acid and pentasa) and in remission since then. But 3months ago he went for a regular bloodwork and was diagnosed with hypothyroid. His TSH range was 17.57 (standard range is: .40 - 4.50 mIU/L) Since then his doctor has put him on a daily dose of 50 mcg of synthroid. His latest results shows that his TSH has come down to 9.04.

I wanted to know is there any natural safe cure to treat crohns as well as/or hypothyroid? I read couple reviews where people mentioned ACV but I am unsure if he could take that with his crohns medication. Can someone please help me since I would like him to get off some medicines:(

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Kairey,

Here is a previous post for Crohn's disease. I hope it will be useful for your husband.

http://www.drdach.com/Crohn_s_LDN.html Hi Matt, Have you looked into low dose naltrexone for Crohn's disease? It is currently in phase lll trials for Crohn's. Dr Jill Smith of Penn State has had excellent results using LDN in Crohn's patients. It is a safe, nontoxic, no side effects (except possible sleep disturbances for a week or two), inexpensive FDA drug that is used in very low doses of 1.5-4.5 mg to modulate the immune system. It is helpful in many autoimmune diseases and in some other diseases like cancer. It can be taken with any other drugs EXCEPT opiate based drugs. The LDN website is www.ldninfo.org. Join the Yahoo LDN Group mentioned on the official LDN site referenced above, and you can ask any questions to the over 12,000 members who take it. They will answer your questions and can guide you as to their experiences and dosing suggestions, and advise you on how to obtain it. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes.

K: The rule-of-thumb for discontinuing pharm meds is "go slow" by reduction which can be achieved if healing modalities are working. Here are the E.C. pages for the conditions you state https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/hypothyroidism.html and https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/crohns-disease.html.

Read these pages and take notes and post any questions for further guidance.

Hello Kairey,

Re your husband's Crohns...and possible treatment. EC has lots of "helps" under this ailment in the Table of Contents section under "Remedies"...

But look online under a search for a WebMed article published January 23,2015 which summarized a study out of "Cell" which implicates a much larger amount of viruses in the gut of Crohns suffers and inflammatory bowel diseases in general than the healthy population.

Any time I have something going wrong in the gut, I take a variety of anti virus/bacteria substances....Echinacea, colloidal silver etc. There are others...Tea Tree Oil for instance. For chronic I take for long periods of time. Two tablespoons of CS three times daily for many months. A Google search that said "Chroh's Disease virus cause" will give a lot more articles on the link than just the WebMed article.
