Requesting help for knee pain

Posted By Wieas (London, Uk) on 06/07/2015

About 3 years ago, whilst shifting some heavy furniture, I damaged my left knee. The knee suddenly gave way accompanied by very bad pain to the left of and just below my kneecap. The only way I can describe the pain is that when I touch the area it it is like a circle of pain that feels like a very bad bruise, only ten times worse!

The pain also extends slightly above and about 4 inches below the main circle of pain. It seems like I can feel something slip off the side of my kneecap when I get this pain and the knee gives way. I don't know if this thing would be a muscle, a ligament or something else. I'm not very medical so don't know the right term.

The pain continued most of that day and I was unable to put any weight on that leg without the pain returning and the knee continually giving way. I spent most of that day resting with my leg raised in the hope that would get rid of the pain.

Next day everything seemed okay. However since then, at least once a week, the knee again gives way accompanied by the same pain. Sometimes I'll be okay after an hour or so, other times it will last all day.

I haven't bothered seeing a doctor. Has anybody got any idea what I might have done to my knee and what remedy I could take?

Thanks.

Any type of wound or injury will benefit from Magnet Therapy. Get the strongest magnet at your disposal (usually an old music speaker magnet from the storage or garage will suffice). Wrap knee w/ cotton cloth and place magnet on injury site for 15-30 min 1x or 2x day until you see improvement. The magnet will eliminate the inflammation & pain thus allowing natural healing process to occur.

Timh, thanks very much for your response.

I haven't got any strong magnets but I've got a collection of fridge magnets, about 15 of them in total! Do you think if I position these around my kneecap wrapped in a bandage they would be okay? Or, the only other magnet thing I've got is a long strip magnet which came with a learner driver plate that gets attached to a car when you're learning to drive. What do you think, would any of these work?

Thanks again.

Find on YouTube Kelly Starrett videos, interviews, etc., Look into buying his book Becoming A Supple leopard. I am waiting for a price to drop, as it is a bestseller. 100% 5 stars reviews. I have watched a couple of his videos about knee pain since my mom has one. Until you understand what is happening and why you won't be able to fix it.

W: The fridge magnets are a good start but require longer application so yes a wrap during sleep would maybe do the job, otherwise you can purchase Magnet Therapy kits that have straps for waist, shoulder, elbows, and knees. The one I use is called "Serenity 2000".
