Remedies Needed for Hairy Tongue

Posted By Daniel (Chicago, Illinois) on 05/28/2008

I have a problem called hairy tongue but have seen nothing on the site addressing it. I really would like to cure it if possible. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. I have tried salt water for the last few days but so far with no success. I will give it a few weeks though and then move onto the next thing. Thank you for your help and for providing the site. Daniel

Hi David, I too have black hairy tongue and am wondering if you found anything to help. It's disgusting and I can't get rid of the horrible taste in my mouth. So far I haven 't found anything to help. Let me know if you have - thanks!

I had the same problem and went to see my dentist. He gave me a tongue scrapper and this medicated mouthwash to use twice a day. It has helped a great deal. There is another medication called Nystaid (prescription) something like that that is for a similar problems and what is called Oral Thrush. If severe enough I would ask to be put on that. Question from me can having this cause sinsus problems? I feel like it might have. But for this question see your dentist. If not definitely see a doctor. Don't let it go. Then after it subsides get yourself a toothbrush that when you flip it over scrubs your tongue too. Do this as part of a daily routine when brushing your teeth. Don't use mouthwatch with alcohol that can make it worse. Good Luck
