I need help with this. For about 4 years now I have been eating a lot of sweets. I never use to eat them or drink sodas but since I went into menopause I want a lot of sugar. I keep pies, cakes and candies all around the house.
How can I stop this desire? I notice if I eat a lot of vegetables is when I want it the most. I am so heavy now, I really need to lose weight. I am 5 -1" and weigh about 180! I used to be a professional dancer. Now I can't even go down the hall!

Mary, protein curbs the desire for sweets I.e. a nice slice of salmon, eggs and such.
Also, Celtic Salt does that too. Just a bit on your food.

Menopause is interesting but some people start having an estrogen imbalance in 30s including men. Some progesterone cream might help balance the estrogen. Estrogen causes sugar cravings, fat storage, bloating, facial hair that needs plucking frequently
L-taurine might help you too
are you also keeping your magnesium levels up it helps regulate hormone
if you eat baked goods take a tsp of soy lecithin granules daily to emulsify unnatural fats that get stored in your tissues, also helps with memory
Also sugar cravings start after antibiotic use as candida gets out of control
drink cup water with 1-2 tsp apple cider vinegar with bit of honey, not much, use straw, a lot of people get trimmer doing this to start the day

Dear Mary,
I wonder if Red Raspberry Leaf tea would be of use to you? It is a balancing tea for all ages. Also ceylon cinnamon helps with blood sugar. I used it in my last pregnancy and it seemed to keep my baby from getting overly large. (He was 7.5 pounds and the two before him had been 10 lbs.)
Cutting sugar or calories is easier when you do such with others! I think this is why weight watchers is so successful. Mutual encouragement to press on.
I think the first two weeks of being off sugar are the hardest. You might look for a substitute for those cravings. Xylitol mints or gum can take the edge off of a sweet tooth and are supposed to be helpful for oral health.
Why don't you resume dancing? Start very small. Even just 1 minute a day and work up to more. It is obviously something you are good at and enjoy. It sure is great exercise!
