whammi46,

Two simple things you can try are Magnesium Glycinate(MG) and Berberine. MG has shown the ability to lower blood glucose at label dosing.

Here is a relevant quote from this meta analysis of RCT studies :

'Compared with placebo, Mg supplementation reduced fasting plasma glucose in people with diabetes. In people at high risk of diabetes, Mg supplementation significantly improved plasma glucose per se, and after a 2 h oral glucose tolerance test. Furthermore, Mg supplementation demonstrated an improvement in insulin sensitivity markers. In conclusion, Mg supplementation appears to have a beneficial role and improves glucose parameters in people with diabetes. Moreover, our work indicates that Mg supplementation may improve insulin-sensitivity parameters in those at high risk of diabetes. '

In the following systematic review and meta analysis of RCT studies, Berberine shows itself to be beneficial for people with diabetes type 2 (T2DM) :

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8696197/

Here is an important and relevant quote from the meta analysis :

' Berberine showed effectiveness in lowering blood glucose comparable with metformin. As an adjunctive therapy, berberine presented better reduction of HbA1c, FPG, and 2hPG. In recent years, three meta-analyses [17, 66, 67] were conducted to explore the effects of berberine for the treatment of T2DM. The latest study was published in 2019, which first performed subgroup analyses to examine the source of heterogeneity and identify the potential factors which likely determine the effects of berberine. These results showed that berberine seemed to achieve better effects on glucose levels when patients aged less than 60 years were treated with a daily dosage of 1.5–2 g. After adding new research with limited sample size and intervention durations in the included criteria, our results suggested that low-dose berberine (< 1 g/d) achieve promising effects of FPG, especially for those patients with a disease duration of no more than five years. '

One or both of these are going to be helpful for you to deal with prediabetes. MG seems like a good starting point and if more effect is needed, the berberine can be added. Both of these supplements offer other health benefits also.
