Dear Caz, these are my remedies for acid reflux, which just about ruins my life! At least half an hour before you eat or drink in the morning, take a glass of warm water with juice of a lemon and half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. This helps stop acid burn for the first part of the day. It helps to put the body into the right PH state. Look up Ted's alkalising Carb bicarb remedy for use throughout the day as well.
Try non acidic fruit, and protein for breakfast, but try to avoid bread and coffee, both cause extreme discomfort/pain! Chew a few whole almonds after meals, and if still painful, I find eating up to a head of lettuce kills the burn. Eat smaller meals, and leave longer to digest as shovelling another meal on top of an already part full stomach is guaranteed to burn! I try to do all these things as a regular part of my day, so I can manage without ppi pills, and only take antacids as a last resort. Other desperate measures I have resorted to are, A glass off milk, drink half and sip the rest as reflux occurs, you should eventually achieve relief, and taking milk of magnesia. some people think acid reflux is magnesium deficiency, but don't take too much MOM, it is a laxative! Hope this helps and would appreciate anyone else's tips to deal with this miserable affliction.
