Need Help for Adhd in 3 Yr Old

Posted By Jennifer (Danville, Il/usa) on 10/02/2011

Dear Ted,

I have an uncontrollable 3rd old daughter. She hasn't been diagnosed yet with ADHD but I have my suspicions. I read the foods she is not to have, but what do you recommend she eat? Do you also have recipes available? I'm at my last straw. The Specialist that reviewed her wants to see her in 6 months to possibly verify diagnosis. I'd like to help her as quickly as possible because I do not want to "Medicate" her. Thank you for your time~ Jennifer

I am a disabled teacher, who taught for 20 years and had two slightly ADHD sons. I do not know if things have changed that much, but it used to be rule of thumb that one does not diagnose until they start going to school to expose them to other children and also to see if the teacher thinks it's a matter of maturation and /or lack of or too much discipline. Unless your child is hanging from the ceiling fans, I would stop the Dr. appts. Find another therapist or Dr., and wait a few years. While waiting, maybe use a therapist to help discipline if that's an issue and read a lot about the topic!!!

The only answer I can help you with is, I was diagnosed with ADD before ADHD was invented. My mother made the decision to not medicate me. She cut ALL of my sugar intake besides controlled amounts of natural sugar. Like soda, red dye in food (this has a high amount of sugar, think slurpies) candy, chips ALL of it. I was not allowed to ever have any except like Christmas. My mom called me a job child, so she gave me lots and lots of stuff to do and entered me in many sports. I'm not sure about the natural remedies but I hope this helps :)

I have a 4 yr old son who displays symptoms of what would be considered ADHD. I don't actually believe it is an illness so I choose to treat him naturally. I believe it is a vitamen and mineral deficiency that causes the hyper activity and loss of consentration. I have researched many things to find what will help him so that when he starts school he will not be left behind. Some of the things I am currently trying are acetyl l-carnitine, evening primrose, vit c (500 mg), iodine (6.25 mg), d3 (2000 mg, selenium, lithium, melatonin. I give very low doses of the minerals and one capsule of the l-carn and primrose per day. The meletonin is given at night to help him settle down to sleep. I started out very slow with all of these and added one at a time about a week a part to make sure I would know which one was the culprit if there were any adverse reactions. The only one I found to cause any adverse reactions was when I give the acetyl l-carnitine at night he tends to have more bad dreams. Probably due to the increase in brain activity. So I give all but the meletonin in the mornings. He seems to have changed at least 75%. I have never had so many inteligent questions asked by him. He usually has a very hard time listening and concentrating on anything. He now is communicating with all of my family like a normal child his age. He is so much sweeter an calmer that I find myself on the verge of tears at times. He still occasional has outbursts when he doesn't get his way but I atribute that to being 4 and having 4 older sisters:) I have no doubt that he was deficient in some of the mineral's I have been supplementing. Mostly iodine, lithium, melatonin, and l-carnitine I beleive. He also takes a multi vit. I have also removed fast food (french fries) and potatoe chips from his diet. He does not get very much sugar but I try to keep an eye on his intake of that as well. I hope to slowly move him towards a gluten free diet as well since 2 of us are already gluten free but he hasn't taken too well to it so far.

I have a 5 yr old in Kindegarten who wants to do what he wants or at least thinks he can. He has been the class clown who goes to the office a lot. Everyone loves this little thing! But he is a little busy body, only in school. His structure his pretty good at home with my help. I did want to offer a website that I found very interesting for anyone who is willing to take the natural way of medicine. The site is "Native Remedies" they offer herbal meds that some how duplicate the focus & hyper meds. Many raves and reviews - check it out. I ordered one called brightspark & focus. Mom reviews are all positive within a week of trying. I will update as soon as start the process this week. Good luck all and God Bless this site. I am one who is doing the ACV & BS for my HBP :) Update on that as well, soon.
