Need gerd remedies after gall bladder removal

Posted By Suzanne (Nipomo, Ca) on 11/26/2013

Hello Ted;

Ever since my gallbladder was removed because of low function, I have had a terrible problem with acid reflux/GERD for the past 7 months now. I also had two cysts on my pancreas which have since disappeared when the gallbladder was removed. I have lost 15 lbs and I am down to 94 lbs. I am a 5'6" female. I did have problems with my digestion prior to the surgery with low blood pressure and low blood sugar problems. I was under an extreme amount of stress and taking antibiotics for Scleroderma. I was mainly constipated. However since then have had bouts of diarrhea and constipation (IBS). When I have the 'dumping' the Gerd is not so bad, however when the stool is harder the GERD is worse.

I eat extremely healthy. Only apples, oats and vegetable stew with some chicken, and potatoes. I have also been taking many supplements to try and reduce the stomach and bowel pain that I have. The only med I have taken is Carrafate and Prilosec occasionally when the reflux is unbearable. After the Prilosec wears off the Acid Reflux/Bile reflux is usually worse so I try to take that as little as possible. I have taken DGL and mastic gum along with slippery elm, glutamine, chinese herb combo. I also take digestive enzymes, acidophillus and Vits. A, E and D. I have had a hard time taking HCL because of my stomach pain. I have tried ACV but it seems to make my stomach burn more. I have also tried to take baking soda and feel that it is constipating. Both were taken alone. If you do suggest taking the ACV/baking soda combo, would I take this before I eat?

I have read many of your replies to the GERD forum and I am not sure what would work for me? Any input would be wonderful.

Suzanne: Not sure if Ted can reply right now as he has been punished by his gov.

If I may suggest a possible remedy that you don't seem to have tried. The single function of the gallbladder is to store bile. Bile helps digest fats and acts like a natural laxative. Do you have problems like constipation also?? With no gallbladder it is solely up to your liver to produce bile "on demand"; and in order for your liver to accomplish this you need adequate levels of Glycine & Taurine, Supplementing Glycine & Taurine at 500-1000mg each daily should help correct this problem.

Suzanne: The enlightened wise man, Bill, recommends sun dried sea salt and clay, Wyoming is best, and he is right. I am not sure apples, oats, and vegetable stew, provides all the necessary nutrients. Home made water kefir, black chia seeds, colostrum, dessicated liver, marine phytoplankton, 1oz liquid concentrate, coconut oil, and raw wildflower honey may be beneficial.

Hi Suzanne...Your problems appear to be more than just GERD/Reflux because you have had your gallbladder removed. The function of the gall bladder is to store adequate amounts of bile between meals. The bile mixes with the digested food in order to emulsify fats into small droplets for better absorption and it also acts as a sort of soap(when combined with an alkali like sodium bicarbonate) to help the travel of digested food down the intestines by peristalsis. So part of your problem is caused by inconsistent and varying amounts of bile fluid secreted at mealtimes which is caused by your gallbladder removal. To remedy this problem, it may help you to take ox bile tablets at mealtimes.

The fact that you are losing weight also indicates a problem with your nutritional pathway between your intestines and blood. So digestion must be improved.

Perhaps the most poignant reason for your problems is the fact that you took antibiotics for your scleroderma problems. Antibiotics are well known to cause dysbiosis(imbalance of good/bad bacteria in the gut). This factor is what leads to pathogen overrun and problems in the gut such as IBS or Candida. What's more, taking both antibiotics and PPIs like Prilosec for any length of time are notorious for causing both candida and associated bacterial problems in the gut.

Your GERD/Reflux problems can be helped by taking pancreatic enzymes or pancreatin(with added bromelain and papain), betaine HCL at mealtimes and, one hour after meals, by taking 1/4 tspn sodium bicarbonate with water. This regimen is more fully described below.

The pancreatin and betaine HCL should be taken at every meal.

The way to take betaine hydrochloride is to begin by taking 1 capsule fifteen minutes before the meal. Next meal take 2 capsules, 15 minutes before; next meal take 3 capsules as before. Keep doing this until you feel a peppery burning in stomach, esophagus. Then back off one capsule. Doing this will help bring up your stomach acid to its correct strength and it also helps to repair the lack of gastric acid in the stomach by supplying chlorides. This can also be further improved by regularly supplementing magnesium chloride and sea salt as advised on EC. Taking daily dosages of B50 complex and taking kelp will also help digestion.

The way to take the sodium bicarbonate(baking soda) is to add 1/4 tspn baking soda to half a glass of water and take this 1 hour after you have finished your meals. This is taken after acid stomach digestion has finished and when duodenal or main stage digestion(which must be achieved in a slightly alkaline medium) begins. Without an alkaline medium, main stage digestion in the duodenum will not occur and the food just stagnates and rots which acts to further promote un-beneficial intestinal acidity and pathogen dominance in the upper intestines.

If you suspect that you have candida, you can perhaps confirm this more easily and cheaply by simply taking William Crook's online candida questionnaire given at this link:

William Crook's Candida Questionnaire

If you have candida then I would further advise that you should also take the protocol that is advised at this link. This protocol is also geared to eradicating bacterial diseases like IBS, colitis etc which are always so often associated with candida problems.

Hello Bill and everyone else who responded to my post;

I am very grateful for your help. I wanted to add a few things to my post that I failed to mention last time.

Bill, I have tried the HCL and also the ACV with baking soda protocols. ACV tends to give me more of a burning sensation in the stomach and also pain/itching that situates itself between the shoulder blades. I have also tried to take the HCL with the same results. Extreme burning. I believe I have an inflammation in my stomach and maybe even in the intestines because, at times, when the stool moves through my bowels it feels like a rock and my stomach is in such pain when I eat certain things. I do take an enzyme with pancreatin/bromelin/papain through Metagenics. I am also taking a homeopathic remedy that has a little HCL in it but I don't believe it is all that much. I take digestive enzymes and I have added bile salts to my vitamin regimen some time ago. I have just started taking the 1/4 tsp baking soda one hour after meals per your suggestion. We'll see how that goes. I am also changing my diet to be more bland. My fear is more weight loss because I was on a similar diet 9 months ago. The only thing I would like to keep eating is apples because it is one of the only raw foods I can eat and helps ease the stomach pain in the evenings before bedtime. I am a bit leery in taking the iodine or kelp because I overdosed on lugol when I was younger and, as a result, have some nodules on my thyroid gland.

The Drs. have told me I do not have Candida or h pylori. Not sure if that is true or not? I'm thinking about trying the Humic Acid and I actually am taking a B supplement for the liver called Livertone.

With all this I still feel bad after 9 months. Any other thoughts and if I should take specific B's and pancreatin's please let me know.

Thanks a bunch,
Suzanne

Suzanne: There is an easy and affordable way you can get well. You have to give the cells all the nutrients they require to function, detox, and repair the tissues. Make green smoothies from organic baby leaves in a blender. Eat raw honey and yogurt, the plain one with the cream on the top called brown cow. Go online and get raw cocoa powder, black chia seeds, nondenatured whey, dessicated liver, and marine phytoplankton, 1oz liquid, the expensive one. Take small amounts with water every hour. When you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom take some more. All these products contain humic acids that activate nutrients, xeronines that activate proteins, sulfur, growth factors, steroids, and hormones. They increase the respiratory quotient and improve zeta potential.

Hello Suzanne,

What all recommended here are the right foods and supplements for your symptoms. Ofcourse, bill is well experienced He can't go wrong. Have patience and don't try everything at once. Looks like you have weak intestines that is because bile is directly released to the small intestine without control, which is the function of gall bladder. If what others recommended did n't work. I will recommend the same thing, but Forget about nutrition for now, Once you start getting the feel better sense you can start nutritious food. What all you need is Carbs from rice, potato and Wheat that is enough. Stop Apple, Oats because weak intestines are easily aggravated by apple and oat fibre or even anyther fiber. Trust me reduce your fiber intake, infact nothing. Fibre from wheat and rice are more than enough. no GMO. Take Ted's Alkalazing formula (which is ACV or Lemon and baking soda combo) 3 times a day. It acts as barrier solution of the intestine to heal itself. To support digestion drink milk kefir, Miso Soup. Probiotics can greatly reduce the symptoms of intestine pain. Kefir and Miso will heal the intestine because of their natural amino acid profile. Let me know after 4 days. Coz I don't want to tell bunch of other supplements to try all at once.

Good Health

Suzanne: Pain between the shoulder blades is a sure sign of pancreas infection. The pancreas lies just beneath the gall, so many cases of gallbladder trouble are also extended to the P. Try to find Dr Christopher's P-14 herbal formula which will greatly help.

Also, the possibility of parasitic infestation seems high in cases like this; so do an herbal para cleanse and this should also help. The Co. Solaray also has a good Pancreas formula which will help.

Lastly, to bring immediate relief, use a strong magnet (a music speaker one will do) directly over the gall area as this will greatly reduce inflammation. The magnet therapy has proved successful for my inflamed pancreas several times.
