My husband suffers from very thin skin

My husband suffers with very thin skin; his skin opens up and bleeds very easily. He has had this since he was in his 20s, he is now in his 60s and it is getting worse. Just wondering does anybody know of any successful treatments for this condition. thank you

I made this comment once before when another poster stated that her skin bruised and tore easily. I also had this problem and believe it is due to a combination of genetics, sun damage, and diet. The comment I made at that time was that I had to cut way back on fish oil because it caused my skin to bruise and bleed easily. I don't take more than a couple of capsules a year now, nor does my blood work show I need it. At the time, another EC reader took exception, but I hope that your husband will look closely for anything he is ingesting that may be thinning his blood and perhaps he could do his outdoor work earlier in the day, so that he won't be too hot with his arms and legs covered with protective clothing.

Dear Suseeq,

One thing I would consider trying would be Borage Oil. I have found it very helpful for skin issues. I was taking 1300mg three times a day for an acute skin issue.

Does your husband drink plenty of water? Even mild dehydration can cause all kinds of problems. And skin cells need water.

You might look in to supplementing with the herb Horsetail. It is reputed to be good for hair, skin and nails. It needs to be taken with plenty of water and Herbalist Philip Fritchey recommends taking extra B vitamins when taking Horsetail. He says they are needed for healthy nerve and skin cells anyway. So, a B complex vitamin may be a helpful thing to try, even if you don't use horsetail.

Let us know how it goes!
