Joshua,
Based on what you said about the stiffness lasting for roughly an hour after you get up, might suggest that you have rheumatoid arthritis (RA). You mentioned nerves because of the shooting pains, but nerve pain generally results in feelings of tingling, burning sensations, pins and needles, numbness and pain related to these and you didn't mention any of these.
Your doctor can test you for RA. If your doctor confirms RA or other form of arthritis, you can consider using borax as it is significantly helpful for multiple forms of arthritis. If he doesn't confirm some form of arthritis, it may be peripheral neuropathy (PN) which would explain the shooting pains in your arms and legs. It is possible to have both conditions. He can do a nerve conduction test to try and determine if it is PN.
Here is a link to the EC borax page which explains how to use it for arthritis of various forms :

You can purchase borax in the laundry aisle of most major grocery stores as well as Walmart and Target.
If there is PN involvement, I have written about this topic and potential remedies here :

For PN, I would also include berberine because like melatonin it can also regenerate nerves.
The combination of your weight lifting and borax will also greatly reduce your risk for osteopenia/osteoporosis in later life.
