Need Help for Huge Outbreak of Mouth, Tongue, and Gum Ulcers

Posted By GertJr (Madison) on 09/30/2021

I've been traveling for over a week now and, starting yesterday, have gotten mouth sores. My tongue and gums have ulcerated spots and I have blisters inside my cheeks. I have a history of virus-type things causing sores on the roof of my mouth, but this is total mouth coverage. I've been swishing with salt water since the beginning, sometimes using dilute peroxide, and holding ice chips in my mouth (hydrating and cooling! ). Today, since I have to work, I started putting oil of oregano on the worst spots (burns and then the spot is numb for awhile). That's all I had on hand that I could think of to use.

These sores are bad enough that my face looks swollen and I can barely eat (drinking bone broth, pretty much).

Any suggestions? At the moment, I almost feel like I may have a fever, but I'm at work and don't have a thermometer. (I am not exposing others, I'm alone in my office and only leave for the restroom, wear a mask at those times). Oh, my, this hurts.

Goodness Gertjr, that sounds miserable!

Not sure what you can take so I will share a few ideas that you could try!

A family member suffers from mouth sores when he doesn't get enough sleep...try to maximize sleep.

  • Turmeric internally to reduce inflammation. Or ibuprofen. Which would also help the pain.
  • L-lysine is a good mouth sore remedy.
  • Clove would help to numb it and also is antiseptic. You could add some clove powder to your salt water rinses (a very good idea! ) (1/4 t. clove powder to 1/4 c water plus whatever salt you use.)
  • Vitamin C, D, Zinc.

I hope you feel better soon! Please take care.

Love,

Gertjr,

It sounds like it could be gingivostomatitis caused by the herpes simplex virus. The saltwater solution you are using is helpful. As this is inflammation, otc pain relievers can help. Drink plenty of water. Aloe vera, coconut oil, and Apple Cider Vinegar could help to speed healing. I would recommend eating bland food. Best to your health.
