Mother has terribly high cholesterol

Hello everyone.

First of all, I've been using this site for years. I love it and thanks so much for everybody's input.

My Mother keeps getting diagnosed with a terribly high cholersterol, reading is 7.9. They say her cholesterol is the bad kind which is inherited. Nothing anybody can do. She was taking medication for years which didn't help but caused many side effects. Around a year ago she stopped taking the medication and started eating only fruits and vegetables, nothing fattening, nothing bad whatsoever. Her diet is as pure as one can get... Problem is the cholesterol is still 7.9. I was the one who encouraged her to go the natural route to begin with. Now I'm afraid that I'm telling her the wrong thing. Is there any way to get the numbers down without succumbing to medication and endangering my mother's life. I'm desperate for answers. Thanks so much in advance.

Hi Tanja - Here's an article by Dr. Joseph Mercola you might find interesting about cholesterol (http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/08/10/making-sense-of-your-cholesterol-numbers.aspx). There are some great comments after the article (click on "View Comments"). Everyone is individual so "one size fits all" numbers you find on a lab report aren't necessarily the way to determine health. Since your Mom suffered side effects from the prescription pills, going the natural route is the way to do it. Have you checked out the cholesterol section under "Ailments" on this site (https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/cholesterol.html)? Best of luck - she's fortunate to have such a caring daughter. Take care, Bess

Two options for your mother, red yeast rice supplements and be sure she takes CoQ10 along with the RYR or try oat bran supplements. Good luck to your mom.

Thank you so much Bess. I read the article, makes a lot of sense... I've also emailed it to my mother. Hopefully it will put her mind at ease and trust that she is doing the right thing. Thanks again, I feel truly blessed to have found this site. All the best to you.
