Is there a quick way to lower bad cholesterol

Posted By Gertie (Va, US) on 12/10/2014

My bad cholesterol is very high. Is there a fast way to get it down? I tried niacin but the 500 mg dose made me faint. A 50 mg dose gave me a flush and very bad itch. Thanks

HI U GERTIE, , , , , , , , , you are on the right track but just got the wrong yo-yo. The 500 mg is what all doctors prescribe because they are living in LaLa land. That is the minimum pharmacy prescription. That is the minimum that they can prescribe and yet you can buy the supplement in a 50 mg dose as you did. If you flushed on this, then that's the dose you need right now.

If you can't live with the itch, then you are beyond help. That is your decision. Life is not just a bowel of cherries. If you don't continue to flush then up the dosage until you do. When you flush you are getting rid of the bad cholesterol. Your choice.

Gertie,

Members of the "Stopped our Statin" group have found that most of the markers for cardiac disease that are now considered important by doctors will become in line with current parameters if a very low carbohydrate diet is followed. It is carbs, not fat, (except seed oils like canola, etc. which also cause problems) that increase triglycerides. Olive oil and coconut oil appear to be beneficial. The doctor on that site who is the head of cardiology at a hospital in Rhode Island and a professor at Brown University believes a Mediterranean diet consisting mostly of vegetables with very little meat, is also important. I don't think the results are immediate, however, but statin drug damage also will not happen. Best wishes.

Hi Gertie...If you have had problems with the ordinary niacin form then try taking the no-flush, slow-release niacin form -- inositol hexanicotinate. This form is easily obtainable from any health shop and it does not give a niacin flush. The fact that you had such a heavy niacin flush is indicative, according to Dr Abram Hoffer, that you are hugely lacking in niacin in your diet. If you take any form of B Vitamin you should always take all the B Vitamins together because they work synergistically together. So you should also take B50 complex at least once a day with meals.

I would also advise that you take a strong liquid kelp extract(for the iodine) and Vitamin C(at least 1000 mgs 3 x per day) which will also act help you more to improve your cholesterol levels.

Before World War II, doctors used to give a drug called iodo-niacin for high blood pressure problems. This simple drug contained 50 mgs of niacin and 120 mgs potassium iodide. This drug was highly successful but was discontinued for reasons unknown in favour of current drugs like statins that are both unnatural and whose side-effects are extremely dangerous for the body.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had never thought that the major reaction to niacin meant I needed more of it. I can deal w/ side effects, just can't be fainting every day. Will take low dose and deal w/ itch/flush and also plan to add acv, lecithin, glycine/lycine/gr tea ext (per Ted), and astaxanthin. I had been taking astaxanthin for arthrits but had stopped. don't know why.

Just wanted to make an additional comment on the Red Yeast Rice. I took it with CoQ 10 and still had awful muscle pain, got cramps in my legs and feet. Horrible, once the cramp resolved my legs were still sore until the next cramp. It's a type of statin. Anyway, I'm doing the kitchen sink approach and using many things listed on this site. I took acv, 1tbs lecithin, & 4 mg astaxanthin this morning w/ my oatmeal. At lunchtime, I will take another 4 mg astaxanthin. When I get home at 5, I will have 1 tbs lecithin and more acv. Ted recommends glycine (I have this) + lysine + green tea extract (I've ordered these last), so I'll do them when they get here. I also have niacin, 100 mg tablets, that I have cut in half, so I will take 50 mg at night for several days, then increase. As to Robt Henry--I get it that I may have to deal with discomfort, but as a hot-flashing insomniac the thought of even more heat & Itch made me wary. I'll do it, just have to adjust the timing. I take EPO at night for the hot flashes, which reduces but does not eliminate them. I go back Jan 20 for another cholesterol test, not the instant I did yesterday w/o fasting, so hope to get it down to good readings by then. I eat mostly vegetables and use olive/coconut oils, so I think the food is already okay. I had been eating lots of microwave popcorn at work, so think this was very bad and will stop it. Thanks for all the valuable advice and experience.

Hi Gertie,

It is true that the people who live the longest have what is considered high cholesterol. Your body, and especially your brain, need cholesterol everywhere to function properly. I stopped worrying about my cholesterol, keeping an eye on triglycerides and attempting to eat less refined carbohydrates. The Ancil Keye original study pointing to fat as the culprit in heart disease has pretty much been proven to be false. My cholesterol is almost always very high, but the only time I have not been able to exercise easily because of muscle and tendon problems, and then acquiring several autoimmune diseases, is when I believed my doctor and took statins for years in spite of obvious adverse reactions that persist after stopping the statins. I think cholesterol numbers are overrated as predictors of future heart events. Stress and sugar seem to be of more importance. Try not to worry about your test numbers. Best wishes!

HI U AGAIN, GERTIE, , , , , , , , , , asked my wife to respond to you concerning your sleep and hot flashes. She said EC was my project. She went through that a number of years ago and I told her to get help because one of us is going to the nut house. She went to an anti-aging doctor in Knoxville and with hormone modulation and magnesium she no longer has hot flashes or sleep problems, AND we now get along like long lost buddies. Been married for 54+ years.

You see when I rough up folks, then the rest of the site comes to your aid. They are PC and I am not. I mean well, but talk straight.

I want to tell you another thing that a niacin flush does and that is to detox. I always thought Ron L Hubbard was a kook, until I bought his book CLEAR MIND, CLEAR BODY. He was a wild and strange guy , as all know, but he was brilliant and had a big heart. He wanted to clean the LSD out of all his 60's drug buddies so he came up with a protocol found in this book.

He came up with a protocol using Niacin and Saunas that would sweat the residual toxins out of your body. Supposedly it worked. I ran this past our anti-aging doctor and she said I could go to the happy hunting grounds by doing that. I'm chicken, so I'm still loaded with toxins.

Anyway, it seems that this site has served you well. I am glad that you are staying with the niacin flush because it has benefits other than your cholesterol. It dilates your capillaries which allows garbage to get into your lymph system and out of your body.

G: It was mandatory for me to switch from microwave popcorn to an hot-air popper. I already had a fatty acid metabolic disorder and the micro corn put me down.

I highly recommend taking the 50mg Niacin w/ either Niacinimide or Inositol hexoniacinate at least 2x day. Another problem is the body unable to convert all those sugars and carbs into energy thus storing as triglycerides, so take 200mcgs Chromium w/ the Niacin.

I have never heard of cramping w/ Red Yeast Rice. You may have some infection in your gut or something quite wrong w/ digestion. Try Oregano Oil softgels before retiring and Probiotics upon waking for a couple wks.

As for the CoQ10, the best absorbed and utilized form is conjugated w/ Reduced Glutathione.

I'm sure I have an infection in my gut--I've had ibs-d all my life. No test shows it, tho. I've been taking align for a week now and diarrhea has been much better. I will try the oregano oil (I have the liquid, so will do drops). Thanks.

Hi Timh,

Is the CoQ10 you mentioned something that you buy, several supplements taken together or something that you make? I know you are an expert on LET. Thank you!

Rsw: I consider myself in the 200 class on LET, but yes on both counts. Some manufacturers are conjugating the GTH & CoQ10 so you should be able to find this form on the shelf (OTC). This can easily be made w/ home LET as both these nutrients are poorly absorbed by oral route, the LET version is nothing less than amazing for energy production.
