I just used eyedrops and had allergic reaction

I just used eyedrops and had an allergic reaction. Within 5 minutes of instilling 1 drop per eye, I began to flush and had itching/tingling that started at the top of my head and slowly moved downward, so slowly that when it got to my feet my head was already feeling better (overall time was 1 1/2 to 2 hours). Now I feel all better except that my palms are itchy to the point of distraction. I'm at work--I don't have access to anything but lotion and water. Any suggestions? I'll be home in 3 hours, so I can wait and it may go away as the other symptoms did. Wow, what an uncomfortable way to spend the afternoon!

Hi Teeg, best suggestion I have for the short term is benadryl (or the generic). My husband has had severe allergies all of his life. His experience has been that the reactions get worse each time. I'm sure you won't use those eye drops again, but you may use something else and have a sudden reaction. He takes apple cider vinegar daily, and is less bothered with allergies than he was. In fact, he has been able to eat fresh cherries for the first time in many years. I believe that is due to the acv.

However, in a bad allergic reaction involving the throat swelling so that it's very hard to breath, nothing seems to work faster than an epi pen or benadryl. The liquid form (children's) seems to work faster than the tablets. We always have some on hand.

Dear Teeg,

You might try drinking a good bit of water to help flush out your system, since that is available. Thinking of it as having an internal bath. :)
