I Have Had a Scalp Infection for 10 Years and Am Now Losing Hair Due to It

Hi Ted, I am a 26 year old female who has been suffering from a scalp infection for the last 10 years. I have seen a number of dermatologists/doctors who have diagnosed me with folliculitus, without even looking at my scalp. I have ended up in the emergency due to what felt like "a million bugs crawling all over my head". At times, my head itches so bad, it is unbearable. Other times, my head is so sore I cannot even think about combing my hair, let alone wash my hair. I have been prescribed minocycline/tetracycline/& more recently, sulfatrim/topical steroids. My body has not responded positively to these antibiotics/steroids. As well, the oral medication only aids me for a short period of time. More recently, I have begun to lose significant amounts of hair and have bald spots all over my scalp. I have run out of options. I beg you for any advice or insight you could provide me... Thank-you for your time.

You should try a lice treatment. It is not just for lice it is also for microscopic mites. I borrowed hair rollers from a relative once and about two weeks later the top of my scalp was itching and my hair was breaking. I went to every doctor in town and after years one doctor finally diagnosed me with foliculitis and treated me with antibiotics for about 6 mos. The itching caused hairloss and sensitivity. After I stopped the antibiotics my scalp started back with the swelling and itching though not as bad. I was doing some research and came across something called Dermodex mites which is a microscopic mite that lives on the scalp follicle, eye brows and lashes and causes a lot of irritation and hair loss. I found a spray leave in hair tonic is a deterrent for mites, lice, fleas, mosquitoes, etc. It keeps my irritation down which actually helped my hair to grow back (I use it to control the scalp irritation and it works). I was at my wits end too! Use coconut oil on your scalp as a hair oil (Trader Joes) and rinse it a couple times a month with diluted apple cider vinegar. You will find that the lice treatment will be a miracle worker. They also make a shampoo and conditioner. I use the shampoo when I was having symptoms but now I just use the leave in spray on my scalp. I hope this helps.
