How Can I Tell if I Have Too Much or Too Little Stomach Acid?

Posted By Konatyme (San Clemente) on 12/31/2015

I am really suffering, please help. 3 small children to care for.

1. Deep Fatigue

2. gut issues, mostly diarrhea, deep gnawing sensation or dull pain in gut that wakes me in the night. Endoscopy revealed eosphagil staining from acid. I also have Mast cells and Eosiniphils in my gut, told I have eosiniophilic esophogitis

- In the AM when I wake up, my stomach hurts in the middle, gas, and I have extremely sore joints and I feel like I haven't slept.

I was prescribed PPI's. After reading Teds posts on his GERD protocol, I tried adding the sups, namely HCL. I felt really tired and heavy after consuming this extra acid. ACV burns and makes me tired. BS helps a little I think.

I assume I have an acid problem but the remedies herein are not helping, any advice is much appreciated.

If I actually have too much stomach acid, wouldn't adding extra acid with meals be detrimental?

Thank you

Hello Konatyme:

If you Google, eosphagil esinphigitis virus caused...(might have the spelling wrong)....you'll find two of the top listed posts, one from Mayo discussing the possible viral, candida or bacterial cause to the white cell accumulation.

So based on that information, if me, I'd at least give colloidal silver a chance. I've used a steamer-inhaler for many years to get the CS to the bronchial area. I breathe deeply for two or three minutes three times daily. And if I had this condition for a long time, then I'd be orally consuming also. Two tablespoons three times daily.

You mention your "deep fatigue" and that is often a clear sign of immune system exhaustion.... fighting virus infection. So one of the first things you'll find IF the condition is infection based, is that your energy will quickly begin returning. So this is a great quick test as to the cause. If you start improving, again if me, keep it up for many months.

Hi Konatyme...If you want to definitely find out -- with a proper test -- whether you have high or low stomach acid then I would simply ask your doctor for the Heidleberg Test. This is a safe non-invasive way of electronically finding out whether your stomach acid is either too high or too low. I would also avoid all PPI's like the plague if I were you. PPI's will reduce your stomach acid to zero. The main function of stomach acid is to sterilize and disinfect all food coming in from the mouth. So if PPIs prevent stomach acid then you are at a much higher risk of continual infection and sickness from excessive pathogens entering the gut. This is a major contributory factor to your multiple problems.

Some years ago, I also wanted to find out for sure if there was any disease or pre-condition that would cause excessive stomach acid problems. I only found one disease that was ever associated with high stomach acidity -- called Zollinger - Ellison Syndrome and its very rare. This rare disease stimulates the gastric hormone to secrete excessive amounts of stomach acid.

Since its much more likely that you have low stomach acid problems, I would advise that you take this protocol. Take all nutrients that are advised -- you have been suffering for a long time so it won't be easy to cure with just HCL.

I must also mention that your symptoms could also indicate a low thyroid or hypothyroid condition and because you've had these immune problems for over 20 years suggests to me that candida + other bacterial or viral infections could also be involved with your problem. To confirm this you could also get the candida blood antigen test which will give you a result that is 95% accurate. Do no take the candida stool test because it's very inaccurate.

If you decide to get your thyroid checked -- then be sure to get your blood T3 and T4 checked as well. The normal T4/TSH test does not check the blood T3 which is the one that you really want to know about whose low levels might be causing all your fatigue and immune problems. More on proper thyroid lab testing here. Another indication of low thyroid is low iron levels in the blood.

Thank u

So I took the supplements in this protocol yesterday. After the HCL and then again after the ACV, the burning sensation was too much. I now have what I believe to be a flaring ulcer. I have a very strong dull pain 4 fingers above my belly button. Cant sleep, back pain, headache, extremely weak. I have had a similar reaction in the past when taking the HCL.

I want to understand why I am having this bad reaction when I add extra acid? does this mean I definitely have an ulcer, too much stomach acid? could I still have too little stomach acid, if so how would I treat it?

Also, I have a RIFE machine to kill bugs, I just need to know which ones could be causing this, any idea?

I have colloidal silver that has been sitting in a plastic 5 gallon jug for 3 years, is it still safe to consume?

Could someone tell me if L-Lysine is acidic and would it bother an ulcer? I tried ACV and it irritated my stomach a lot.

Also, if I take HCL and my stomach gets worse, is it safe to assume I DON'T have low stomach acid?

Fresh Lemon Juice in water can stimulate HCL production.

It is really hard to know what to do. If I am trying to eat a low histamine diet, lemons are evidently a high histmamine food, so not too sure what to do...

San Fernando, I tried the protocol and the HCL made me much worse. I am thinking I have an ulcer based on my reaction. How to I treat with HCL ect if I have an ulcer? Also I have Mast cells and eosinophils in my gut so I am supposed to avoid histamine foods. I am totally lost here. I really appreciate any advice..

Need some help please,

I feel very acidic. I tried Ted's remedy with the HCL and other supplements. I got much worse immediately. I believe I have an ulcer as well. It is really hard to understand how ingesting more acid (HCL etc.) will aid an already acidic situation. All the Western MD's are telling me to take PPI's, at least temporarily, to relieve an acidic ulceric environment to give my stomach a chance to heal and reduce inflammation. I tried not taking them and taking the supps suggested in Teds post and I got really sick, it took me a week to recover from that experiment. I have 3 small mouths to feed, I really need some help here.

Sorry you are suffering.

I have two suggestions: slippery elm capsules at the start of every meal to soothe your stomach and intestines and DGL licorice capsules to heal the ulcer. Also drink lots of water every day.

HI U KONATYME, , , , , , , , , let me whisper sweet nothing in your ear. I have read that the best way to heal a stomach ulcer is to drink ozonated water. I have never been down this trail, but I do have an ozone generator and do drink ozonated water and it should not cause you problems.

I know the best way to get alkaline is to do ACV and baking soda.

Read and decide for yourself. ===ORH===

Konatyme, I do not know if you followed the other guidelines. Being low on magnesium can affect how your sphincter muscle closes, if it is mushy it can allow acid to escape, and to take 250 mg of mag citrate for a more constipated type of stool or mag malate capsules for a runny stool type 1 dose am 1 dose pm. the malate on the label will have two types of mg dosage on the back 1 will be for the malate portion 1 for the magnesium portion mag is safe at higher doses and the malate prevents the runny stool. Adding slippery elm to your regime will coat your esophagus and allow healing, but the magnesium really helps digestion, tighten up sphincters. Janet

S: Don't forget terms or items like "water" or/and "salt" are not black or white like they used to be back in the days of simplicity. As for good health you must drink purified water and for acidosis conditions especially, drink "alkalized" water.

Salt is another term/item. To be healthy one must throw out processed salt and go with Sea Salt or Pink Himalayan Salt.

There are no "controlled studies" pointing out the common sense facts proven by everyday folks here on E.C. and elsewhere in the health community that there is positive effects with purified water, real salt, and organic foods. Common digestive disorders are all, to some degree, a byproduct of the adulterated or contaminated forms of these nutrients.

OK, I am being critical, but there it is. And I will second your suggestion on Slippery Elm and DGL and hope we get a positive report from the poster.

I had 2 ulcers: one in my stomach one in my duodenum found by endoscopy. I healed them with Dragon's Blood tincture in water. Amazing tree sap from Peru and Ecuador. Stains everything dark red so be careful with it. Great wound healer inside and out. Burns and cuts heal without scarring. It's astringent, pulls the tissues together and also stimulates cell production to heal wounds. You have to get the pure liquid sap not alcohol extract.

Hi Konatyme,

Take organic raw honey one tablespoon in one glass of water three times a day. I did it few months ago when my stomach got irritated by eating salad with ACV dressing continuously for one week. Even I drank water it hurt .As everybody know the wounds healing power of honey, so I took it with water on empty stomach three times a day and found instant relief. I was pregnant at that moment and did not want to take any medicine. The only side effect of honey is that my baby is very energetic and healthy. I was so relieved by honey that after curing my irritated stomach I took honey daily in my whole pregnancy.

Hope you will soon feel better.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have a very strong clue. I have had the stomach flu every January for 3 years in a row. I also had a colonoscopy/endoscopy in July 2015. In all instances I did not eat anything for 24 hours and my gut was "cleaned out". In all instances, the day after, I feel no pain or arthritis, no fatigue, irritability, bowel is normal, everything is better. It would appear that ingesting anything into my stomach is making me sick. I don't want to eat! How do I heal my gut? Is this IBS or food allergies or..??

Konatyme, Ibs can be low vitamin D. Ted recommends vitamin D. I take D3 10,000 IU a day. I am careful of ingredients only plain olive oil or coconut oil as the only other additive. I take magnesium malate as I have lost my lower intestine to surgery and malate prevents the runs. A good nighttime mag is magnesium glycinate helps sleep. Stay away from D2 as it is ineffective I find, Here is Ted's email pertaining to IBS. Janet
