How Should I Use A Poultice After a Tooth Extraction?

Posted By Cindy (Usa) on 08/06/2015

Hi Earth Clinic readers, I am looking for information anyone else may know about my question. One week ago I had a tooth pulled because of an infection. I want to know if I can use a poultice to draw out any infection that is most likely still in the jaw?

I have been hesitant to try anything before this so as not to disturb any clots . I think the healing is far enough along now to go after any remaining infection just not sure how to go about it. Thanks in advance. I would appreciate hearing from others experience.

Hi Cindy,

I did not have an extraction but I had an abscess that came through the gum and was very painful. There is another post here on EC that advised using a cap full of peroxide and a cap full of water mixture to swish around in the mouth. I did this several times a day after using the garlic and tea bag remedy for the abscess. When I awoke, then after meals and before I went to bed. It worked well for me and I think this would help keep the area clean and disinfected.

I would also think warm salt water may be just as beneficial.

Any opinions about this?
