John, you can start with Epsom Salt baths. Soak for a minimum of 20 minutes.

Dear John,

So sorry about the broken back bones and nerve pain! Is the back break caused by an accident or by fractures from weak bones/arthritis?

Comfrey is very good to help the bones heal faster. Philip Fritchey, in Pracital Herbalism, recommends taking 5-10 capsules of comfrey (root or powder) 3 times a day. Or, if you were to make a comfrey leaf tea, Lalitha Thomas, in Ten Essential Herbs, recommends up to 6 cups of comfrey tea a day. Comfrey causes cell proliferation. Many have had broken bones heal in record time using comfrey. You can also make a strong comfrey tea and soak a cloth in it and apply it to your back for an hour, several times a day. Comfrey is also an anti-inflammatory.

Ginger root and turmeric root are also good anti-inflammatories. They could be used along with the comfrey. You could make teas with this or take capsules of them. Two of each 2-3 times a day.

Castor Oil applied topically is good for pain and inflammation.

I find Peppermint Essential Oil to be one of my favorite things to help with nerve pain radiating from my back into my legs. It is a great anti-inflammatory. (Careful when applying it as you don't want to get it into your eyes. Not harmful, just uncomfortable.)

Also, to promote healing, if you can drink carrot juice daily (freshly made) that would be great. In fact, lots of healthy food, and avoiding sugar (Sugar increases pain and inflammation. ) would be ideal. Plenty of water or hebal tea is important, too.

Please let us know how it goes.
