Has had issues after cataract surgery

Posted By Betty (Fort Walton Bch., Florida) on 06/18/2013

I had cataract surgery, it was too large, so it fell apart, behind my eye ball. In turn, I had surgery to clean the cataract out, the lens then got infected had another surgery took out lens and put another one in (no Glaucoma) but it came back so they said want me to take drops. Scared to death, have anxiety, blood pressure comes up and I don't sleep, very depressed, can you help me for a natural cure?

I recently read an article that said that the most abundant nutrient in the eye is vitamin c. If it were me I would take massive doses of vitamin c. My husband has taken very large doses of c over the last 20 to 25 years along with other nutrients and has gone from having to wear glasses for distance and reading to almost perfect vision. He feels that it was the c that was most responsible for the improvement. Good luck and stay well.

So sorry to hear of your complications following cataract surgery. Understand that the cataract (or lens) didn't actually go behind your eyeball, but rather pieces of it most likely pierced a membrane that separates the front of your eyeball from the back (where the retina is). Those pieces cause inflammation and sometimes infection. It sounds as though you have had surgery to remove the offending pieces and resolve the infection. The drops are most likely steroid or NSAIDS to control the inflammation. Steroid drops can sometimes cause a temporary glaucoma (or high pressure in the eyeball). It is possible you are also taking drops for that. Please have your doctor take the time to explain to you exactly what problems remain, what the purpose is of the drops you are taking, and when he/she expects you will no longer need them. Turmeric is an excellent anti-inflammatory and readily available. Many people swear by the effectiveness of castor oil (either dropped in eye or as a compress) for eye issues. I don't have any experience with that treatment, but you can check it out here on EC. Best to you.
