Son's Red Hands Get Worse in Heat and After Exercising

Posted By Jeanie (Adelaide ) on 11/06/2016

My 15 year old son has recently developed really red hands from the wrist down to the fingers. It seems to be aggravated by heat and exercise. If he holds his hands up they go back white as soon as he drops them to his sides you can visibly see them turn red and the veins start swelling from his fingers and running up his arms, you can actually watch them swelling. He doesn't have any pain or burning sensation so I don't know if it can be Erythromalagia. He does tend to have sweaty clammy hands in the heat. Please can anyone offer suggestions as he is very disturbed by this and self conscious of his hands, will only wear long sleeves even in the heat. I would really appreciate some help.

Dear Jeanie,

Has your son had a medical evaluation for this? Sometimes simple blood work can provide helpful information as to where to begin.

Does he have any other health problems? How is his diet?

Sometimes a daily apple cider vinegar tonic helps people with internal heating and cooling issues (i.e. - hot flashes, anhidrosis, etc.) so it might be any easy thing to try. 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar daily in a glass or water or juice.

With conditions that seem somewhat mysterious I consider remedies that have broad applications (like the vinegar above.)

When I read your post and read about Erythromalagia, which sounds possible, though I am not a doctor, it makes me thing that burdock root might be helpful. Burdock root is a cooling herb that has blood purifying properties. It is a food in some cultures and considered quite safe. 2 tablets with breakfast and 2 with lunch or dinner is what I took for neuropathy and it helped me very much. It is something to take for at least a couple of months, if it suits, as it can take some time to work.

Other broad spectrum remedies include coconut oil as a nutritive and antiviral, nettle tea as a nutritive and blood purifier, and milk kefir for its probiotics.

I would encourage you to read this site regularly. There is so much to learn and I am hopeful that you will find the solution for your son!

Thank you Mama to Many, I will try Burdock. I have started him on Apple Cider Vinegar, 3 drops of Lugols and Magnesium. Really appreciate your reply.
