Feedback needed on possible nerve issue

Posted By Jessica (Edmonton, Ab, Ca) on 06/17/2011

I have recently started experiencing different and irritating sensations in my arms, legs, and face. These sensations vary from tingling, twitching, short stabing pain, and a "skin crawling" feeling. It affects me off and on both day and night, and has started to affect sleep. I am finding it hard to focus on even just day to day tasks because of this. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what could be causing this, or idea's on how to allieviate these irritating sensations. Thank you in advance for any feedback.

It sound like you have Restless Legs Syndrome. I take magnesium and potassium at the same time to relieve this.

Years ago I too had RLS and didn't know what to do, so I researched it. One of the remedies I stumbled upon was Iron. Instead taking it in pill form I just bought a cereal that is high in Iron, C--- of W----: 2 1/2 tablespoons and a 1/4 cup of milk. It didn't totally relax my legs, but they felt 100x better. Even now if my legs or joints hurt, especially after I've done a lot of walking, I eat it and almost instantaneously (not an exaggeration) they feel better.

The second remedy. I was diagnosed a few years ago with diabetes (Type 2). Was put on Metformin. As a side benefit to controlling my blood sugar levels my RLS has completely disappeared.

These are just two suggestions. Hope this helps!

Hi Jessica,

I had similar symptoms and went to a neurologist who ruled out anything serious (they just called it peripheral neuropathy-there is a section for that on Earth Clinic as well that I'd look at) and gave me a prescription for Lyrica. I've since discovered Alpha Lipoic Acid, which works much better and is much less expensive than the Lyrica. I use 300 mg. 2 times daily.
