Hair Loss in 22 Year Old - First Loss of Facial Hair, Now Moving to Head

Posted By Deirdre (Ct) on 08/18/2020

Hello everyone,

I am hoping someone has some ideas about this. I got a text from a friend today in LA whose 22 year old son has suddenly developed alopecia and has lost most of his facial hair. Now it's moving to his head. His father thinks it is mostly stress-related.

Anyone have ideas on what might be causing this and what supplements might help?

Thank you so much in advance!

Deirdre

Hi Deirdre,

I know this forum promotes "natural alternatives" for remedies, but I have only seen this disease once in my entire life and am not aware of anything in the natural realm that can treat it, if what he has is alopecia universalis. I have a couple of ideas on what might help, but I think in this case, he will have to go with one of two medications and will require a prescription by his doctor.

The first medication is, oddly enough, hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) and the second medication is tofacitinib citrate (Xeljanz). Here is some information on the second drug :

Here is information on the first drug:

These can both act as potent antiinflammatories and especially the Tofacitinib and I think possibly more potently than any natural antiinflammatories like boswellia in its stronger forms like AKBA.
