Natural Treatments for Hair Loss in Men

Modified on Mar 11, 2024

Even though hair loss is fairly common among men, it doesn’t make it any easier to deal with. Whether your hair is thinning due to male pattern baldness or another common cause, you likely want to find a way to treat it effectively.

What Are the Main Causes of Hair Loss in Men?

Androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss for males. This process can begin at any age and progress at any speed. In this instance, male hormones actually block the growth of hair, resulting in thinning typically along the crown and sides.

Additional factors may also cause thinning, though. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles causing hair loss. Additionally, pernicious anemia, lupus, and thyroid disease are other medical conditions that may cause thinning of the hair.

Genetics and medical concerns are not the only factors involved, though. Nutritional concerns and certain medical treatments may also cause abnormal patterns in hair growth. Hormonal imbalances may also cause such issues as cystic acne and seborrheic dermatitis that lead to loss of hair as well.

Should I Use Prescription Treatment?

As common as male hair loss is, a number of medical treatments have been identified. Finasteride, Minoxidil, and Corticosteroid injections are common treatments for hair loss; however, these options aren’t necessarily the best. Medical options may treat the condition for a time but actually do very little to support the restoration of hair growth and usually only prevent further hair loss. These treatments may also lead to other complications in the body if used continuously.
