Edema in Lower Back / Lumbar Area

Posted By guest (EU) on 09/18/2023

Hello,

Can someone please suggest what to do?

Edema in the lower back / lumbar area which is probably creating pressure.

It is not noticeable or felt by touch, only on MRI.

Would appreciate your help.

Thank you

guest,

Use a better quality ice pack three times per day for three days and in between icing, apply Stopain roll on until the pain is controlled. You didn't say what your diagnosis is, but if it is degenerative disc disease, the following should help :

If it is arthritis, Borax laundry booster should help as per the following :

Hi Art,

Are there any alternatives to Stopain please? It does not ship to my country. Tried a few different websites.

Thanks

Thank you very much Art.
Can you please say what would be a quality ice pack?
Any suggestions on how to remove the excess fluid / edema?

You're welcome, guest!

I probably should have used a different word other than "quality". I should have said gel ice pack, because these types tend to conform better to the contours of the body.

You can try an herbal combination type diuretic such as this for the edema, but if it is actually inflammatory swelling the icing alone may reduce the swelling :

https://www.amazon.com/Now-Water-Out-Veggie-Capsules/dp/B005FYLKEG/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2B6CJ9GBW0U8N&keywords=now+foods,+water+out,+fluid+balance,+100+veg+capsules&qid=1695175190&sprefix=now+water+out,aps,182&sr=8-1

You don't say what your actual diagnosis is so it is hard to know about inflammatory swelling vs edema from fluid buildup.

Thank you very much Art.

Regarding the stopain, was meaning if you could suggest alternative products which are as good or almost as good as stopain which are sold in the US as the stopain does not ship to my country but maybe other products are. Would be ordering from the US.

Regarding what exactly is the cause of the pain, have not gotten the reason from doctors, so looking for a solution based on MRI findings as the doctors have only prescribed more and more pain medication without actually finding the cause of the terrible pain.

MRI is showing edema in lower back so looking for a solution to that, as maybe that might be causing pressure.

Would appreciate any help or ideas on what to do.

guest,

Regarding an alternative to Stopain in another country it is hard for me to know what is available in your country and I can keep making product suggestions, but if Stopain is not available there, other suggestions are likely not going to be available either. Stopain is available at most major drugstores here. You might try Tiger Balm Neck Ans Shoulder Rub. This is a typical product here :

https://www.amazon.com/Tiger-Balm-Shoulder-Vanishing-Scent/dp/B00266PFHE/ref=sr_1_40?crid=3GPMEDM4I7CSH&keywords=highest+rated+topical+pain+reliever&qid=1695176078&sprefix=highest+rated+topical+pain+reliever,aps,165&sr=8-40

Alternatively, look at the ingredients in Stopain and web search your country for those ingredients or similar. It is a very good ingredient combination for topical pain relief.

guest,

Yes, I suggested Tiger Balm Neck And Shoulder Rub as an alternative to Stopain.

Did icing offer relief? That is where I would start as icing is a very potent anti inflammatory and it will let you know if the edema is being caused by inflammation or fluid buildup from something else. I did give other suggestions for DDD and arthritis.

Without a diagnosis, it is hard to make other suggestions.

Do you have access to dmso? I've read it can clear out edema. I know here in the US it can be purchased at farm supply stores. If you can purchase it, you will need to start out using it at about 50/50 with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or a good virgin olive oil.

Art,

Thanks.

Have been using ice to reduce pain since you recommended it and it has been helping. Thank you very much. Tryng now to find something that can have a long lasting effect.

The problem seems to be edema causing pressure on nerves which is causing strong pain and tingling feeling in legs.

Thank you Hollyhock.

Haven't found DMSO here, but maybe it can be ordered from the US. Is there a specific type or form which is more recommended?

Is it a powder? Should it just be mixed with the oil or does it have to sit in the oil for a while before rubbing it?

Thank you

guest,

I am glad to hear that the icing is helping.

Tingling in the legs is sometimes caused by the nerves traveling from the spine down the legs. Magnesium Chloride Oil (mag oil) can help nerve pain in some people and it also helps to relax tense muscles which can ultimately cause pressure on the nerves as well as reduce inflammation and swelling. Mag oil is generally used as a topical spray. Here is a link to various mag oil products :

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=magnesium+oil+spray&crid=2XEWRPRMSYVOL&sprefix=magnesium+oil,aps,141&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_13

It is relatively inexpensive and probably worth a try. Here is a link to reviews by users of one product. Read some of these reviews in order to get a good idea of what people use mag oil for and how it works for them.

It doesn't work for everyone, but with no diagnosis yet available and the non invasive nature of mag oil, it may be worth a try. It also helps contribute to your overall magnesium intake. Apply in between icings.

It is a liquid. I found some 99.9 percent pure dmso on Amazon. Maybe you can use Amazon? Research dmso here on earth clinic. Good luck.
