Could Recent Acne Be Related to Menopause?

Sponaneous Adult Acne

I am a 53 year old woman and out of no where I keep getting bright red pimples with white heads on them. I've never had acne in my life. Could this be related to menopause? Any help would be welcome. Thank you

Dear Patti,

Yes, I think it could be menopause. I have had very little trouble with acne during my life, even as a teen. However, I have had some cystic pimples in the last year (I am nearing 50.) I have been assuming it is menopause.

An evening primrose oil supplement may help. Some herbs I am taking that have helped me with multiple menopausal symptoms include nettle and oatstraw (as a tea) and motherwort, as a tincture.

I have found that a mixture of French Green Clay and turmeric, mixed with water to make a paste and applied to a pimple is really helpful! I leave it on for hours if I will be home, or rinse in 15 minutes.
