Cant eat mucus issues

Posted By Terry (Naples, Fl) on 10/28/2012

For the past 6 month I mostly can't eat, it seems like food is getting stuck half way down and then up it comes with all the mucas. Now I talke 3-4 bites and it triggers the mucas, up it comes, my eyes run and my nose swells shut! Funny thing is I can drink protein drinks fine and started doing raw vegies & fruite smoothies which is ok. I sometime can eat junk like popcorn, vegies straws! But when it comes to real food I can't get it down or it does not stay down. Dr's have been no help. I have allegeries and get sinusitus a lot. I am getting rather desperate to just eat a normal meal.

Hi Terry, I can't say I was as extreme as you are describing but, it was pretty bad. I don't want to give the graphic details but I will tell you what I did to overcome this situation. First off, I can sympathize with you and am sorry you are suffering. This was the condition I was in when I first discovered EC so I learned a lot on here.

This may sound radical but I used hydrogen peroxide to remove a lot of the mucus in my sinus area. I would take a q-tip dipped in HP and put it up in my nostrils which would cause a cascade of mucous to be released. It was really crazy but so much came out, I didn't know one could have that much! People thought I had a cold because I just kept blowing my nose. I did this for about 3 days and found great relief. Still, my body kept producing more so I realized this was helping the symptoms but not the cause.

Next, I removed dairy and radically changed my diet. Again, a huge shift and what I noticed was the constant surge of pain in my legs disappeared! Then, I began detoxing in many different ways. Some I learned here on EC so you could look at the detoxification section to gain ideas.

I then went to my acupuncturist and asked him to help me. He said my digestion was not working properly and my stomach needed work. I would imagine this condition was long standing as I was pretty crazy in my youth regarding eating issues. He did both acupuncture and gave me herbal tonics to heal that and various other issues we would discover. He even said, I had too much mucus in my body from undigested food. I am a true believer in TCM to go to the cause of the symptoms which are what the western drs. Look at and then administer drugs to cover them up. I would highly suggest you find a good Traditional Chinese medicine Dr. as well.

And now I no longer have this condition. I continue to detox on a regular basis, I take betaine HCL with every meal which has made a huge difference, I keep dairy at a minimum now and periodically go to my acupuncturist for a tune up. I also take Chinese herbs to keep my body strong and tonified. Anyway, I hope this information helps. Stay strong, Lisa

Hi, I have trouble with mucus in my stomach that wants to come up at night or when I first get up. I have trouble digesting certain foods, so whenever I eat beef, chicken or fried foods I take Ox Bile.

Hello Anon from Oregon:

Re you digestive issue which you describe as "mucus" coming up in you when you first get up in the morning; actually this sounds like an acid reflux issue and would suggest two things.

First make a dietary change. Lots about that on Earth Clinic. Coffee is a big contributor to reflux; de caf is also acidic and it's the acidic foods that most contribute to reflux. Sweets, esp at night also are big problems. Since I quit eating sugars (95 percent gone) my reflux is gone. Look at anything acidic; chillis, heavy meat meals at night; ice cream is a top of the list contributor esp when eaten at night.

Second is to drink apple cider vinegar. ACV is really big on Earth Clinic and for good reason. It just does so much. Take a tablespoon in a glass of water and add a half teaspoon of baking soda before bed. I like the taste and the drink will help with digestion. Finally and part of the second really, is to take a few pills nightly of HCL (hydrocloric acid) as a suppliment or some have good results from a combo of digestive enzymes obtained at the health food stores.

So: alter the diet and add digestive supplements.

I've gone thru exactly what you are going thru now. There is a solution. These two steps are what cured my digestive problems.

Best to you....Dave
