Cannot Lower High Body Heat From Menopause

Posted By Meno (Xx) on 10/22/2015

I am 50 and going through menopause. I I have always had a lot of heat in my body, but now while going through menopause, the heat is not able to escape my body and I feel very hot to touch. Thermometer does not show any higher temperature, actually it shows a little low. When I sit in air condition I feel very cold and have to cover myself in warm clothes. I don't get hot flashes and don't sweat. Anyone knows how to deal with this, how to release the body heat which otherwise used to be released through periods.

Also, does menopause cause anxiety and fatigue and shortness of breath? I have been having issues shortly after my last periods about 5 months ago (which came after a gap of 6 months between periods). I also have hypothyroid.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Meno,

Well, I am no expert on menopause, but am having symptoms myself (I am almost 49) and have been studying it a lot of late. Anxiety can come along with menopause. Not sure about the shortness of breath.

Motherwort has helped me a lot with the anxiety symptoms. It has also helped my racing heart. I take a dropperful of Motherwort tincture in the morning in some water. Sometimes I take another dose in the evening or if my heart starts racing. It has helped me a lot.

I have also been making oatstraw/peppermint infusion. I put 2 Tablespoons of dried oatstraw herb and 2 Tablespoons of dried peppermint leaf into a pint jar and pour boiling water over it and cover. I let this sit for an hour or two (no more heat) and strain out the herbs and drink it throughout the day. The peppermint is cooling and the oatstraw is good for the nervous system and is also nutritious.

I am also putting a pinch of borax in my coffee in the morning. It is supposed to help with hormone regulation.

I had been having some extra warmth. Not exactly hot flashes, but just hot, and I rarely felt hot before. Since taking the above, I have not been experiencing that heat.

I also take iodine for my hypothyroid, but I have been doing that for years. And I take magnesium.

Everyone is different. I don't know if these things will work for you, but I am sharing in case you want to try them. It would be something to start with.

Black Cohosh is a popular menopause/hot flash remedy, though I do not take it myself.

Let me know how it goes.
