Are These Cholesterol Numbers Actually High?

Posted By Michelle M. (Daytona Beach, FL) on 08/29/2026

Hello Everyone,

I just received my lipid panel back and my total cholesterol is 255. My triglycerides are 172 and my LDL is 158. My HDL and VLDL levels are normal. Should I be worried? These levels are considered high by medical standards but I've read that their standards shouldn't be considered as high, as they just want to push unnecessary cholesterol medicines on you. I refuse to take them, especially the statins. What are the best ways that I can reduce my levels, besides eating healthier? That I have already started doing. I'll eat healthy then stop and that's when my cholesterol levels will increase. It's a no brainer to just keep eating healthier but I'm human. I take aged garlic extract, vitamin D3, Niacinimide and omega 3s, which are known to help. I take a slew of other supplements, as well. What else can I take to lower my levels. Are my levels really that high, as stated by my primary care physician. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
