Will chicken pox marks fade with time

Posted By Andrei (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) on 11/23/2014

My son had chicken pox when he was still 8 months, he is already 22 months now. He has black marks from the chicken pox covering both of his knees. Will they fade on their own as he grows up or do I have to put something to remove them?

Dear Andrei,

The marks from chicken pox will probably fade over time. You could try rubbing some wheat germ oil onto his knees each day. It has a high vitamin E content and may help it to fade more quickly. Castor Oil might work for this too.

I have a son who is almost 9. He had chicken pox when he was a year old. He had a thousand spots if he had one. To this day, if he gets upset or overexerts, you can see where each and every pox was on his face. (He will have red spots all over his face.) He is very fair skinned. Usually you cannot see where the spots were. It is really odd. This has not been the case for any of my other children, even my two red heads. Though, all of my other children were at least two before they had chicken pox.
