Hi Shawna,

It is common for babies to be born with a weakened lower esophageal sphincter which often cause acid reflux. They will often regurgitate their food. Most of them outgrow this condition in 1 year.

Experienced pediatric "holistic" practitioners have many effective remedies for this situation and can also address any breast feeding/milk issues.

Below are some effective and commonly used "natural" antacid remedies that can also help to strengthen the sphincter:

* Aloe vera juice (high quality, organic), 1-3 tablespoons, take a.m. & p.m. Adults usually take 1/4 cup per dose so you can reduce this amount down to baby weight.

* Various Herbal Teas: *fennel seed tea (as Rob mentions), *lemon balm tea, chamomile flower tea, slippery elm tea, ginger root tea (may be too potent for baby). Usually given 3x/day, 1/2 hour after or before meals. Simmer herb 10 minutes covered, keep covered and cool for 20-60+ minutes, drink. Roots and seeds are usually simmered longer - 20-30 minutes.

* High quality probiotics at bedtime.

* SBI PROTECT POWDER (Ortho Molecular Products)

1 scoop in 4 oz water, 2x/day, empty stomach best.

From site research: "A pure, non-allergenic, non-dairy source of concentrated Immunoglobulins G (IgG) that enhance mucosal immunity and function in many ways: heals lining of the stomach and intestines, strengthens the GI immune system, binds a broad range of microbes and toxins within the gut lumen to maintain microbial balance, increase immune cell counts, strengthen gut barrier, maintain normal inflammatory balance.

Strengthening the gut barrier is a key to immune health. In research, they found that the binding capabilities of immunoglobulins have a positive effect on gut barrier function - Immunoglobulins bind microbes and toxins in the GI tract and eliminate them prior to immune system activation, unwanted triggers are removed, it resets healthy immune tolerance and builds a stronger barrier to the external environment."
