Dear Malik: Several people I know got their uric acid (which causes gout) under control just by using baking soda. There are other safe ways, but this is the simplest way most convenient way I can find.
Since your gout is rather serious, I suggest you take a more frequent dose. In case of serious gout, try 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda taken 3 times per day with one full glass of water on an empty stomach. This in my opinion is still a conservative dose, but it has the least problems. Do not eat anything after taking baking soda for at least 30 minutes, otherwise it might cause loose stools, usually salty foods.
It is important to drink plenty of water. It takes about a week to notice improvement if it is that serious. It is important not to drink tea, coffee, wine, spinach, or strawberries as this would increase the body's uric acid levels. Taking some vitamin C and vitamin B complex would further reduce this problem. Ted
