Oil of Oregano and Toenail Fungus

Nicole (Hawaii) on 04/14/2025

I have 2 cure stories for using Oregano Oil/Oil of Oregano for toe nail fungus. My own, 4 years ago on a mild case w/1/2 a toe nail and an older friend of mine who I also suspected had toe nail fungus issues. Mine was on 1/2 of my L big toe nail. Had not been there long, since a toe nail polishing..so 2-4 weeks?

First I cured myself by buying the most popular Oil of Oregano from Amazon, Up Nature I believe & empty fingernail polish bottles. That particular batch of Oil of Oregano I could tolerate full strength by brushing it onto my toe nails only on the nail. For 2 weeks I brushed it on twice/day. I put it on all nails on both feet just to be sure to kill it off should it jump to another nail. The affected 1 nail and all my left foot toe nails, I could feel the heat from the Oregano oil. Lasts about 2 hours then heat sensation goes away. My right foot, no toe nail fungus.. also got the treatment on all nails "just in case" those nails had no heat sensation. After 2 weeks the 1/2 nail that had the fungus was powdery, I scraped that top layer off and kept applying the oregano oil. Then about another 2 weeks of brushing on Oregano Oil 1time/day. I very carefully cut my toe nails and disinfected the clippers between each nail whenever needed. 4 months later my toe nail fungus was completely gone! I gave a fresh new fingernail polish bottle with Oregano Oil to my friend who had all her toe nails infected, it turns out..with fungus for 10 years! It took her a full year to rid her toe nails of her fungus. Hers went through periods of the toe nails turning black and red as the fungus was dying off (sorry, I cannot remember which color happened first in her die off of the fungus).

So fast forward 4 years later, must have come across nail fungus again, I live in the Tropics. Turns out the active compound carvacol? in oregano oil must decrease over time, so I purchased a new bottle from Up Nature. That batch was WAY stronger than my original bottle. So be aware that in this case I had to play with how much of a carrier oil (almond oil in my case) I had to use to dilute down this Oregano oil... so try 1 part Oregano oil to 3 parts carrier oil....and see if you can work up, maybe to 1:1 ratio Oregano Oil:carrier oil?? Still got rid of it, just took a little time to figure out the right concentration for the strength of the Oil of Oregano I have now. So be very careful as Oregano Oil is a "hot" oil. If you have too much Oregano oil/super strong strength... you may very well get a skin/chemical burn. It works great and I'll always keep it on hand for anyone who needs to irradicate Toe Nail fungus. It works great!!

Oregano Oil and C.diff

My elderly Mother had been in the hospital for a small problem when she got the notoriously bad Clostridium difficile (C. diff). After she left the hospital where she contracted this (common problem in hospitals) they wanted to put her on meds that cost a thousand dollars and were looking for me to provide that. I sent her caretaker a bottle of high quality Oregano oil with directions to use it. That cured the C. diff within a few days. Great stuff!

Oregano Oil for Viruses and Bacteria

Oil of Oregano kills all bacteria and viruses

Many, many years ago I read "The cure is in the cupboard" and from then on I started taking Mediterranean Grade P73 Oil of Oregano. Since I started taking it I have never had a cold, flu or any kind of sinus infection. During the COVID breakout I never took any of the vaccines and never wore a mask. I have been a real estate broker in Idaho for decades and always meet a lot of people and yet while others around me came down with colds, flus and COVID I never came down with anything. It is now August, 2024 and I am still healthy and symptom free at the age of 68. I just take one drop of the Mediterranean Grade Oil of Oregano P73 under the tongue daily.

Oil of Oregano and Toenail Fungus

Can't remember where I found the idea of applying Oil of Oregano onto Toe Nail Fungus however, This only works when the infection is minor and doesn't work for on nails which have an abundant amount of fungus underneath it. I will be returning to Apple Cider Vinegar applied instead.

Oregano Oil Cures

I have been using the oil of Oregano for over 15 yrs, I use strong and good quality stuff.

One test I use for selecting a brand: if there is any hint of bitterness in taste, I avoid it. There are many on the market, I prefer strong, even used 100% for bad toothaches. It's worked for my teeth for serious and minor issues.

The best way to use it is by nipping in the bud whatever you notice, pain or discomfort, do not allow the problem to become a monster. Any major pain can be hard to get under control, but I have had 100 percent success even with these.

Maybe I'm well suited for it, I can take large doses of it and it only works that much better with no side effects. I know my body very well and can read it easily .

I have beat all viruses with it big and small, colds, allergies, toothaches needing root canals, pains in my body that were strong, do not know what they were but with constant use of Oregano they went away ... 100 % success and more things as well beaten.

You must be able to read your body, and you should be able better than anyone else, that's what pain is, it's a signal to you that only you are aware of. It's really that simple to me anyhow.

Oregano Oil is my go to, and I have other things too. It's been a blessing in a big way for years. I hope others find it too, many can not believe what I just wrote here, their great loss.

Here's a great way to take the oregano oil + coconut oil - I just started doing this myself:

1. Buy a silicone ice cube tray that make small cubes. The trays I have make 21 cubes each that hold around 2tsp of oil.

Here's a description of the trays from the website I purchase it from: "Each ice cube has a narrow dome shape (half circle) with a diameter of 30 mm and a height of 20 mm. This small size allows it to fit into most water bottles, and freeze quickly."

2. Fill the tray with melted coconut oil

3. Put 1 - 3 drops of oregano oil in each "cube" (or however much oregano oil you would like) and allow it to harden in the fridge or freezer - this happens quickly, maybe an hour or less.

4. When your ready for your "dose" of coconut oil / oregano oil just pop out a cube, chew a few times and swallow. Viola!

More tips

1. If you're not used to "eating" coconut oil, it may give you tummy discomfort. Start out with a smaller amount. You can also try taking it before or with meals.

2. Once the coconut oil / oregano oil mixture hardens, I pop it out of the tray and put it in a glass jar & keep the jar in the fridge. That way the oils aren't sitting in the tray absorbing more of whatever toxic material the trays are made out of.

3. You can also use these handy little cubes for OIL PULLING.

In fact, I have 4 different 12 oz glass jars with different combinations of coconut oil + essential oils for oil pulling!

Oregano Oil for Vaginal and Intestinal Bacterial Infection

Tracey K. (Waldorf, Maryland ) on 08/19/2020

Hello,

I wanted to let you know about the time that I used Oregano essential oil to cure a vaginal and intestinal bacterial infection.

I went to see my doctor and of course she put me on an antibiotic for 10 days. I didn’t have any improvement. She then gave me another even stronger antibiotic for another 10 days. I went back a third time and the course was repeated. I was early in my medicinal plant learning at the time and didn’t know a lot but decided to take my health into my own hands after being sick for 2 months. What did I have to loose?

I started taking 5 drops of Oregano oil in a shot glass of water morning and night. By the next day the irritation in my vagina was much better. I continued the treatment for 4 more days. By the third day I had no signs or symptoms at all. It was amazing how quickly it helped and never returned.

I swear by Oregano oil for any bacterial or viral infections.

I hope my story can help someone else with taking control of their own health.

Regards,

Tracey K. 🌿

Oregano Oil for Avoiding Water/Food-borne Illness while Traveling

Katie (Wisconsin) on 02/05/2018
5 out of 5 stars

I am so excited to share an experience I had while traveling in Mexico recently. While reading about how to avoid becoming sick due to the bacteria in Mexico's water and certain food (see "Montezuma's Revenge"), I learned that one of my old staples - Oregano Oil - is considered a great remedy/safeguard by a lot of world travelers because it kills off bacteria, parasites and more. About 3 days before my trip, I began taking about four drops with water each morning (70% Carvacrol); I continued this routine while I was on the trip. On the second to last evening, the three people I'd been traveling with became very ill within an hour of one another; absolutely horrible vomiting and diarrhea. Because we'd spent the day eating and drinking at the same places, I sat there in horror, waiting for the sickness to (inevitably) hit me like it'd hit everyone else. I waited and waited. Nothing happened. They were all brutally sick for 24 hours, and slowly returned to normal over the course of 7–10 days. But I NEVER GOT SICK. Oregano oil is truly remarkable. (Just make sure to read directions and start slowly to build your tolerance. If you take too much too quick, you will experience dizziness and stomach upset.)

Multiple Cures Over the Years With Oregano Oil

Bob G. (Smithville, On ) on 11/13/2017

H! I have been using oregano oil for 12 yrs. I'm currently using it for my allergies in my dog, over 5 yrs now and it still works, I tried all the others and they only partially worked for a short time.

I had some shin problems and cracked skin that would not heal for about 3 months, one time I rubbed oregano on my hands it has not come back that was 12 yrs ago .

I had a severe bug, not a common one but a very powerful one, 4 days taking oregano oil and it was gone and did not come back . Super Bug? Maybe.

I needed a root canal about 8 yrs ago, $1,200.00 was too much. I put oregano in the tooth off and on for about a month and it has not bothered me since, when ever I feel a tooth ache coming on I put oregano on it.

Had some serious lung pain about 5 yrs ago, I do have sensitive lungs due to smoking and bad air, Oregano works for that too, could I go on?

Yes I now use it every day and it keeps me going!

After getting a fungal infection after poking what I thought was a small blood blister, a 2" area around the site became red, inflamed, and hot and hard. I quickly took some organic Oil of Wild Oregano and mixed it with a carrier oil (jojoba oil), and rubbed it in. Within 10 minutes the swelling was gone. Very impressive. I will be sure to keep some on hand for the rest of my life.

Two drops in gelatin capsule twice daily kept my daughter out of the doctor when she got a very bad sinus infection. I had her take it for a week. With food and a warm drink ideally. Please do remember that it's powerful medicine. Also if you're going to use it topically it must be mixed with a carrier oil like olive oil or coconut oil.

Oregano Oil Cured Cutaneous Horn

My DH had this growth sprout from the back of his hand that grew and grew. I asked on EC for advice, was told poultice/castor oil/etc. So, he's been putting castor oil on it for months now and binding it with a cloth. No change, just kept growing. Big enough to snag when he puts his hand in his pocket, would bleed. Dermatologist said it needed to be cut off. The appt to do that is in 3 weeks.

Anyway, a week or so ago, he started putting oregano oil on it. Today, it came off! Not completely level with surface, but off! He had one starting to come up on his neck, too, and it also came off but not as completely. He'll keep on doing the oregano oil several times a day.

WOW, I'm blown away! If you google this, the internet is full of pictures of people with these things--they look like antlers and can get huge. God is so good, to provide us with this remedy and EC to spread the word! It may not be completely gone, but I feel it won't take long if he continues the treatment.

I have (or should I say Had ) Huge warts on my hands, mostly on the knuckles. Had them frozen via a long series of treatments every month for 6 months , finally they were gone. So I thought , within a couple months they were back and bigger than ever. I knew that I wasn't going through that pain again , so I started using oregano essential oil (origanum vulgare) full strength on them . Most of them are completely gone, I'm still treating the huge one that's left . It's half the size it was and I suffered no pain this time and didn't have go to the doctor.

Oil of oregano is one of the two things that gives me gut wrenching cramps--the other is horseradish. Which is weird because I can eat large amounts of 90,000 HU cayenne or raw garlic with no problem! I find the best way to get it is to eat whole oregano which I load into my home-made flax crackers (actually flax, chia, sesame, pumpkin and sunflower seed). Yum! They definitely help with counteracting yeast, etc. I read while looking this up that someone suggested a drop or two in a glass of tomato juice. I think I will give that a try. But the capsules, so far too strong for me, though I plan to see if I can try them again sometime, maybe along with a large salad or something. The other thing that helps in a similar way to oregano is thyme. This I take in capsules, whole thyme, and it works wonders against respiratory infections for me.

Regarding Oil of Oregano

Taissa (Montana) on 11/01/2013

I have been using ooo for many years and have found that the fastest and most efficient way to get wild ooo 80% carvacrol into the system is delivery right under the tongue. I do not use it in any gel cap form because I think some of the stomach acids inhibits it's fullest antibiotic and antiviral potential. I once tried it with gel caps and it didn't respond as well. Under the tongue is more potent and powerful, and I find that I respond much faster to it. It burns a bit, but that's a good thing and I do like the taste of it. If it's too strong for some, mixing it up in a bit of sunflower oil or water may help. Perhaps some juice as long as it goes under the tongue. I hold it under the tongue for as long as I can stand it, then swish it through the mouth and swallow it back, followed with a nice tall glass of water or juice.

I would never take this on a daily basis, and would use it only as a preventative in cases where I'm going to possibly be exposed to illness. I have read many studies that suggest ooo stands side by side in potency with last resort antibiotics such as vancomycin. A dear friend of mine who is a biologist grew some bacteria in a petri dish, added in ooo and the germ killing response was incredible. So I would never use ooo on a daily basis, but as needed. Something so powerful should be reserved for such things, in my opinion.

I killed a severe tooth infection once by taking 2 cloves of garlic and three drops (not dropperfuls, but drops) of ooo under the tongue every two hours (during my waking hours) and followed that regimen until pain completely reduced, then cut the regimen in half for a couple more days. Garlic and OOO packs a powerful natural antibiotic punch. Chop the cloves, mash them up, let them sit 5-10 min to release allicin. Swallow with water like you would a pill, then take the ooo right after and bam you have natures antibiotic. The toothache reduced greatly by end of day two, and gone by day 3. Some people experience a faster response.

I have killed strep throat with ooo every single time my daughter or I have caught it. The strep was confirmed with the doctor. We took the antibiotic script he gave us and put it on hold, and went home and did our ooo and within hours the sore throat was gone. I painted it on the back of the throat with a q-tip, and gargled it. For my daughter, I put 2 drops in water and let her swallow it back every few hours. Strep is nothing to play with, so if we had no response, I would definitely get the doctor's antibiotic, but we have never had to do this because ooo is just as potent.

I have had some very good experiences with ooo and I would never be without it.

My daughter had a callus or something on the bottom of her foot that she didn't tell me about. Not sure why she decided to pick at it. She said she thought there was something in it. Anyway, it got sore and there was a hole in the middle of it. That's when she decided to show it to me.*Sigh*

For two nights (a few days apart) I put a drop of oregano oil on it. She said it feels fine now. Just to be sure I'm gonna put another drop on tonight.

I have also used oregano oil on scratches and pimples. It works really well in helping both disappear almost overnight!

Oregano Oil for Skin Infection and Possible Cellulitis

Oregano oil for skin infection/possible cellulitis:

I have fingernails that split easily and I sometimes get nail fungus. This happened to one of my thumbnails recently, and I had been treating the fungus by soaking it in apple cider vinegar daily (as I normally do to get rid of the fungus). So, last night I woke up during the night and noticed that my thumb hurt - enough to keep me from going right back to sleep like I usually do. Still, I was asleep again within a few minutes, but when I woke up for real in the morning, my thumb was so painful that I couldn't even use my toothbrush with my right hand - the pressure of my thumb on the toothbrush hurt too much. My thumb was swollen down to the first joint. The first thing did was pour hydrogen peroxide on it. Then I went downstairs to the computer to consult Earth Clinic. I saw tea tree oil mentioned as a helpful remedy. I have tea tree oil, but it was upstairs. I remembered that oregano oil is a powerful antibiotic, and I had some nearby in the kitchen (it came pre-mixed in olive oil), so I put a drop on the thumbnail crack. Within an hour, both the pain and swelling had subsided significantly. I do not know if it was cellulitis or some lesser skin infection, but since cellulitis is very fast-moving, I'm glad the oregano oil helped the infection/inflammation before it got worse.

Oregano Oil For Gum Disease

T. (Charlotte, Nc) on 05/07/2013

I have had bleeding gums for years. When I wake up in the morning, my mouth seemed to be full of blood somehow. I would spit first thing and it would be bloody. :-(

Also when I brushed my teeth, a LOT of blood.

I recently began taking oregano oil (mine came mixed with olive oil) several times a day for general immune system strengthening to help with another issue I'm having.

No measured doses, just whatever came up in the dropper when I pulled it out of the little bottle.

It's been a few weeks now and I realized just this morning that I have had no more instances of blood in my mouth when I wake up. Also blood when I brush has been greatly reduced. I have used it to brush my gums with (once or twice) and think I will do it more often to see what results I get.

Side note: I seem to cough up a lot of phlegm during the day since taking the oregano oil. It's clear but makes me wonder if I've been having lung issues all this time without knowing.

MY husband and I swear by oregano oil. We buy it in 100% oil and capsules. If we feel we are getting sick we take one or two. I put some oil in my face lotions for my hormonal break outs. I have a back problem and mix it with my lotion and get instant pain relief. It does smell but evaporates in a little while. But it works. Great pain reliever.
