Magnet Therapy for How to Tell North Pole of Magnet

I'm convinced that magnets can reverse ailments, but that you have to be careful which pole you use. I'm aware that the North Pole is the anti-inflammatory side but I'm getting different information as to which side is actually "North". I was always under the impression that if the "North" needle on a compass points towards the magnet then that side of the magnet is "South" as opposites attract, but I've also been told the opposite, so if anyone uses a magnetic pad and a compass, could they please check and add it to this post to help people with their healing, thank you.
