Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a low platelet count in dogs that is an auto-immune response. The body is attacking its own platelets.  Natural remedies for ITP in dogs include a healthy diet, coconut oil and vitamin C.

What are the Symptoms of ITP?

A dog with ITP may experience bleeding problems.  He may have bleeding gums, nosebleeds, or even internal bleeding. (Black stools would be a symptoms of internal bleeding.) He may have petechiae, which are tiny red spots on the skin, caused by broken capillaries.  He may also bruise easily.

Traditional treatment of ITP in dogs is steroid drugs.  While these are often effective in normalizing the platelet count, side effects are quite common.
