Legg-Calve-Perthes Syndrome Remedies

Legg Calve Perthes (LCPD) is a hip disorder that typically affects children between the ages of 4 and 8, but also can affect your puppy! Blood flow to the head of the femur bone becomes disrupted, and the bone can stop growing or even die. Hip pain is the most noticeable symptom and usually presents itself in puppies around 6-8 months old; if left untreated it can result in debilitating arthritis in dogs. Toy and small dog breeds are more prone to this disease. The typical mode of treatment is surgery to remove the troubled head of the femur; however, more conservative treatments involving exercise and rest have also shown to be effective.
