Iodine + DMSO for Dog's Cyst?

judith (USA) on 04/03/2024

Can I use providone iodine with DMSO on dog cyst or Lugol's iodine 5%? He had surgery to drain a cyst in same place last July - it was over $2k! So I am VERY interested in healing this at home. I tried turmeric and coconut oil and didn't see any results. I only used it internally as he is on all the furniture and rugs... ;) Right now I've been using DMSO and colloidal silver but though it has a surface opening, it's not draining. Any suggestions are appreciated :) Blessings everyone!

Turmeric and Burdock Root for Mystery Lump on Dog's Neck

I have an 8 month old German Shepherd Puppy. Over a month ago we noticed that she had a large lump under her neck, off to the side. It actually looked like she had a tennis ball under the skin. It did not seem to cause her pain and wasn't affecting her activity. I took her to the vet. The vet drew out some blood from the area and concluded it was a hematoma. This seemed odd to me, but given how much she wrestles with our older German Shepherd, it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. The vet gave her a course of antibiotics. I went ahead and used them because I was about to go out of town and felt I needed to cover my bases. The swelling began improving and within a week or two she looked normal.

Another week or two passed and suddenly the lump was back! Again, it looked like she swallowed a tennis ball. It felt doughy. I am not convinced it was a hematoma, and oddly the antibiotic seemed to work. At the same time, it fit the description of a lipoma, though that seemed odd for a puppy.

I started giving her turmeric and burdock root twice daily. Each is in pill form. I fold them into half a piece of cheese and she takes it easily.

Within a few days the swelling was subsiding. I think something may have drained; she had some evidence of fluid on her neck. (But, then again, she is a farm dog and it could have been anything! )

I still do not know what she had. Infection? Lipoma? Something else?

I do know that next time there is a mystery lump, my first remedy with be turmeric and burdock root! (She is about 50lbs. I gave her one of each pill twice a day.)

Need Help for Cyst in Dog

Marilyn (Buffalo, NY) on 01/27/2023

Our 8 year old pit bull has a pea size bump on her upper back hind leg. It is firm, not squishy. She has no other health conditions. We have been giving her a 1/2 tsp of both turmeric and coconut oil twice daily internally. We have also been doing a hot compress, then spraying with colloidal silver and then applying a 50/50 mixture of DMSO and distilled water 2x daily. Originally the bump was flesh colored, it is now red. It has not changed in size, however it has gotten a tiny bit softer. Could these changes be reflective of it working its way to the surface and trying to heal? Or is this an indication something is irritating it further? Any input would be appreciated, this is our first time using these products.

Vinegar + Coconut Oil for Sebaceous Cyst in Dog

AllieBee (Maine) on 08/28/2022

Our lab mix had a pea-sized sebaceous cyst on her head, right by her "egg" bump. Paid $88 at the vet for him to barely even LOOK at it and say "definitely needs surgery" - which would have cost at least $400. My neighbor who's a vet at a different practice an hour away, said "That's crazy! It's literally just a pimple! It does not need surgery! " My dog had already half-popped it by chasing squirrels in the bushes. So I popped it again, as much as I could get out of it, and then kept cleaning it with apple cider vinegar and then put coconut oil on it (just 3-4 times a day). I kept the ACV in an old dropper bottle from liquid stevia and coconut oil in an old makeup squeeze tube, just to make it easy because she doesn't love the smell of ACV and she LOVES to eat coconut oil!

But within a week, the hair had grown back completely healthy and there was NO remaining bump. Previously, even after popping, it looked almost like a bit of a wart was left. Within a day or two that had fallen off and it was just a hole that we kept clean as we kept applying both 3ish times a day! I wish I had taken this route in the first place as we already knew it was just a simple sebaceous cyst.

Keep this in mind if your dog gets one! It worked wonders for ours! (FYI: Apple cider vinegar with the "mother" works best of course, but others will be fine. BUT the coconut oil MUST be unrefined or else it will just make things worse because it's basically fryolator oil if it's 'refined'! )

DMSO, Hydrogen Peroxide Caused Dog's Skin Tag/Wart to Fall Off!

Deirdre (CT) on 03/30/2021
5 out of 5 stars

Just wanted to report PHENOMENAL results using DMSO and 12% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide on a skin tag/growth/mole on my 15 year old dog's head.

Thanks to whoever wrote in about DMSO and Peroxide combo in EC's pets section. Inspired me to try this remedy combo.

Note: I tested this out on myself first (and am still using it) to make sure there were no side effects like burning and am happy to report there aren't any side effects with this concentration other than white skin on fingertips if I hold a supersaturated H202 cotton ball to an area fon my body for over 8 minutes. This disappears an hour or two later.

The Remedy:

I simply added a few drops of DMSO to a small dish containing 12% FGH2O2 and applied with a qtip to the mole on the top of my dog's head the first night. The mole started to flake apart within a few hours after application.

The second night, I held a cotton ball doused in the same mixture on the spot for a minute.

To my utter amazement, the growth simply fell apart and off his head right then and there!

Now, the vet had frozen this same mole off his head last October and it caused him considerable pain at the time. It also took 3 weeks to disappear, during which time it bled from time to time. Then it grew back a few months after that.

So imagine my hoorah when this ugly looking thing just fell off after such a short time. No blood, no pain. So amazing. I should have taken pics, but I didn't think it would work that fast.

I continue to use this combo on another skin tag near his bottom lip and also on my other 15 year old dog who has a few benign cysts on her face and neck. Can't tell if it's going to work. They seem to have shrunk a bit but hard to say. However, definitely not the dramatic instant cure like the skin tag/mole. So the success of this remedy really depends on the type of growth it is.

P.S. Would 3% peroxide be strong enough to achieve an almost instantaneous cure OR just the peroxide on its own (without the DMSO)? Not sure about that. Try it and let us know. I'm happy with the 12% after testing it extensively on my own skin for 5-10 minutes at a time.

DMSO for Sebaceous Cysts in Dogs

Sebaceous Cysts in Dogs:

About a year ago I noticed a large 1 1/2 boil on the back of my German Shepard. I tried lots of natural remedies with no success. Some time later I took her to the vet and he looked at it and then took a small lance and popped it open and out came this pimply white poop. He said it was basically a clogged oil gland, like a large pimple. He left a small hole and gave me some antibiotic ointment to inject into the hole to clear it up. I did that for a while, but it didn't work. It kept filling up, but the hole was still there. Again, I tried all my natural anti infection remedies and I have lots...nothing working worked. It kept filling up again. Then I had a flash. What's happening is the gland is clogged and coagulated. It needs something to dissolve the gook that's blocking it. DMSO I thought...it's a solvent and presto...

I squeezed out as much as I could and then I soaked a Q tip with DMSO and applied it for a few days and it completely dried it out.

Many months later, I noticed another one closer to the tail. I tried popping it, but it wouldn't budge for me. I thought maybe it's something else. Coco went for her regular vet visit and I asked him to look at it. Again he lanced and drained it. When we got home, I squeezed out what was left and again applied DMSO with a Q-Tip and then poured a little over it and again it completely dried it up.

Just to clarify, this is not the more flat fatty tumors, which are more jelly like to touch. These are like round boils, but I'm sold on the DMSO for this.

I did castor oil about 2-3x/day for about 3 weeks on my dog's cyst on her head. It completely scabbed over and dried up and her skin and fur looks perfect again.

Tied Thread and Clear Nail Polish for Skin Tag on Dog

Marilyn (Greenwich) on 10/18/2018
5 out of 5 stars

My 13 year old dog had a large skin tag the size of a quarter growing on her elbow. Though ugly, I didn't want to put her under the stress of anesthesia just to cut off a benign skin growth. I researched and found two methods on youtube which I used simultaneously.

First, I tied a cotton thread, wound twice as tightly as possible and then knotted off around the very base of the skin tag. Then I coated the skin tag with clear nail polish. If you go to youtube, you'll find a kindly man who has treated many dogs with these two methods (separate videos). Urls are below.

At the 3 day mark, I tied another piece of thread to ensure as the skin tag had shriveled considerably in size and you need it tight to cut off the blood supply to the skin tag. I also coated it again with clear nail polish.

It took a week before the large skin tag had completely shriveled up and turned black. I then sterilized some good scissors under a flame and then snipped the dried tag off at the base being careful not to snip her skin. She had no pain when I snipped it off and there was no blood. Also, it doesn't appear that tying a string around the skin tag caused any pain or discomfort at all. She didn't lick the skin tag once the whole week.

It can also work on other growths besides skin tags like cysts and tumors.

The videos I watched first before attempting this:

Curcumin Helping Cat With Large Liver Cysts

Kristin D. (Danbury, Ct) on 02/19/2018

Thank you SO much for the info on your site! It has been a life-extender for our cat. I wanted to share this in case it helped someone else.Wanted to share our experience in case it helps someone else.

Last week, our 16 year old cat was diagnosed with small intestine cancer, kidney stones, and most importantly, large liver cysts that were pushing on her stomach, preventing her from eating. She stopped eating and drinking altogether (thus, the vet visit), and we weren't sure she was going to last through the weekend.

We opted against the surgical option for the cysts and the cancer for a variety of reasons, and thought we would just be making her comfortable for the next couple of days until the inevitable.

I am shocked but happy to report that for the time being she has done almost a complete 180. She is eating and drinking again as well as spending time with us again and it is almost as if we have our original cat back.

Specifically, I have been using Thorne's Meriva Soy Free (because I had it from my Lyme disease treatment) and opening the capsules, giving her approx 1/16 tsp mixed w/ warm water 2x/day via syringe. (Straight Tumeric is not advised due to bioavailability issues.) Literally, after 2 doses, she was MUCH better. Yesterday we started with pet-grade Milk Thistle drops found on Chewy.com. She is back to being super squirmy and nervous (i.e. normal for her) which gives us hope. Even if she passes sooner rather than later, the Meriva supplement made a HUGE difference for her quality of life. Maybe this anecdotal evidence will help others who are struggling with the same choices for their cats.

Turmeric Stopped Dog's Cyst from Bleeding

Turmeric stopped Dog's cyst from bleeding.

Wow! My friend's dog was bleeding from a cyst for days. We researched and researched and tried many things, but this is what worked:

  1. First we bathed him in a mild warm water solution of soapy water to get blood off of his legs from cyst on abdomen.
  2. Next we used a mild solution of Epsom Salt and warm water, and repeated again for about 15 minutes.
  3. Next we applied turmeric. It bled again but it slowed down, so I applied the turmeric again and it finally stopped.

This is how we stopped it from bleeding. He is sleeping on a dry white towel and not even a drop of blood an hour or so after treatment. AMAZING stuff turmeric.

Wondering About Coconut Oil and Turmeric for Fat Deposit in Dog

Maggie (Idaho) on 08/17/2017

My 20# dog has a fat deposit the size of an egg by his stomach. I've read some of the threads and people are giving turmeric and coconut oil as a cure for fat deposits. I try to keep my dog on a low fat diet which is what I've read to do when a dog has a fat deposit. I would like to try coconut oil but I'm afraid it may make the fat deposit bigger since he'd be eating so much fat. Has anyone tried coconut oil and had the fat deposit get bigger? Does anyone know why coconut oil works even though it's a fat?

Turmeric and Coconut Oil Shrank Dog's Cyst

Epsy (Georgia) on 08/17/2016
5 out of 5 stars

My 4 year old Carolina dog had a cyst on her head for close to a year. It just got bigger and harder over time. The vet wasn't sure what the problem was and advised leaving it alone. I found this site and began giving her turmeric and coconut oil 3 weeks ago. She is 50 pounds and I gave about 1/2 tsp of each in her food once or twice a day. The cyst began leaking brown/black sebum and is now down to almost nothing. I attached before and after pics. This is my first post here. I was so impressed I called my vet about it, too!

EC: Hi Epsy, can you please upload the other photo. Unfortunately the program we use only allows one photo per post. Thank you!

Turmeric and Castor Oil Cured Cyst in Shih Tzu

Rona (Baltimore, Md) on 05/08/2016

My 16 yr. old Shih Tzu had a large cyst on the top right side of his mouth. It was not cancer but his doctor wouldn't operate because of his age. I found the info about Turmeric & Castor Oil from this website. To all the pet lovers, believe it. IT WORKS! IT WORKS! IT WORKS! My pooch is now healed. The cyst has completely fallen off.

Everyday I dabbed it with castor oil then heavily applied turmeric paste mixture and now after 3 months if fell off with no problem or side effect to my dog.

I also sprinkled a small amount of turmeric powder in his food each time I fed him. He experienced no problems digesting the turmeric in his diet. When I first began using it the cyst grew extra big, bled daily then it began to dry up, separated from his face and on Mother's Day it fell off by itself.

Thank you! Earth Clinic for post the information about Turmeric & Castor Oil it healed my dog and we both are very grateful.

Coconut Oil and Lavender for Cyst on My Dog

Hmthelords (Upstate Ny) on 03/28/2016
5 out of 5 stars

My dog, Rosie has a cyst that ruptured this weekend and she would not leave it alone to heal. She just keeps biting it until it is a huge mess. The vet's office shaved her tail and put a cone of shame on her and prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds. I was concerned about the side-effects and damage to her gut from the meds, so I decided to research natural remedies. This is what I would do for my family and for myself, and she is family. I found a recipe in an essential oil book for coconut oil and lavender (15 drops of lavender+5 tablespoons of coconut oil). I have been rubbing this on about twice a day for the past two and a half days and already the cyst is no longer red and inflammed, but also scabbed over nicely. It looks SO much better! She also seems to like the formula. Somehow she knows it makes it feel better. She will even lick it off my fingers after I am done massaging it in. I am going to try turmeric as well, since she seems to be prone to these cysts (and each trip to the vet is usually a $150+ visit). Just thought I would post this as an additional help for those with dogs that are suffering from these cyst issues.

Re: Large Cysts on Canine Paw Oozing After Turmeric Use

Terri (Chicago, Il) on 05/07/2015

My black lab has a large growth on the top of his paw. I started adding a 1/4 tsp of Tumeric to his food a few weeks ago. the growth changes color and is oozing daily. Is this a sign of improvement or is it getting worse. I'm also wondering if I should bandage it so my pet will stop licking it? Should I be applying an topical antibiotic as well? I also have castor oil, but not sure what to do with it. Please advise.

Spring Water, Coconut Oil, Turmeric for Cysts

Petnanny (Texas, US) on 04/15/2015
4 out of 5 stars

My basset hound has been suffering from fatty cysts for years. The conventional wisdom was to leave them alone. One of them kept swelling up and I got concerned that it was something different, so I started researching. I started her on only spring water, and add about a tsp of tumeric to her food twice a day along with a tsp of coconut oil each meal. I mix that all together and she loves it and I must say that it has helped tremendously so far. All of the other cysts have started shrinking. This bigger one has been shrinking and finally burst today. I drained it and am about to place a hot compress on it. There is a small hole where everything expressed. I'm wondering what else I need to do at this stage? Should I put the coco oil and tumeric on the cyst itself where the opening is? It's worked so well so far I want to make sure to do this well. Thanks everyone!

Sebaceous Cyst in Dog

Barbara (Illinois, United States) on 11/26/2014

I tried treating my 9 yrold Airedale's sebaceous cyst with oral and using salve of turmeric and virgin coconut oil. The vet already tried antibiotics and steroids with antiinflammatory but it didn't help much. It has been bleeding off and on, but no sebaceous material. The second day of salve my dog started licking it and it oozed more blood. I've kept him on oral and added bacitracin per vet. I'm trying to decide about also using castor oil, any suggestions/ideas?
Thank you!
