I am so excited this a.m. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid on Sept. 5,2018. I was prescribed synthroid, and took it for 2 weeks, then stopped as I was feeling awful, worse than when I was diagnosed. I found Earthclinic and read about natural ways to try to even out my numbers. I got onto Coconut Oil for it's iodine, and also started using salt again, but SeaSalt only, and just about one 8th of tsp a day.

I know many of my foods Id added to my diet had iodine as well, so I didnt want to get too much. Easy does it I kept remembering. I got my new, thyroid bloodwork back this a.m. and I'd like to share the pics so I'll try to do that. The first is the before numbers, and the second is the "after". I'm so thrilled and I hope others will try this.

EC: So sorry, your pics did not upload for some reason.

I got same thing when drinking coconut oil, it was in wishbone area in chest, turned out to be gall bladder spasms. I got this after taking growth hormone injections and 600 calorie a day diet with no fat for 3 sessions X 6 weeks each. Needless to say, gall bladder went into spasms off / on for 2 more months and the test they did at hospital showed gallbladder not functioning properly. The spasms were so painful, I agreed to have it taken out. I so wish I knew how bad that is on / for your body!! Change your lifestyle, eat organic, remove wheat, caffeine, no plastic, no chlorine, no milk, lots of put water, organic teas.

I have a tendency towards hyperthyroid (I'm not on any meds) but EVCO made my heart race and my hyperthyroid and insomnia symptoms a million times worse. I took tons of Magnesuim chloride and glycinate and exercised and my symptoms went away. The only other supplement that made me suddenly go into a hyperthyroid state like that was Iodine.

I too have been getting chest pains from coconut oil. I have 100% confirmed this several times by eliminating it from my diet then reintroducing it. It is concerning because sometimes it feels like I am having a heart attack. All the healthy stuff that is indicated by taking coconut oil, I am really concerned about the risks.

I have never taken thyroid meds, or any other meds. Just had to changed my diet to veggies fish and some meats over the past year. Coconut oil was helping my diet not be so bland, but despite what I just read on this forum about it possibly being a godo thing, the chest pains don't seem good to me. I'd like more science behind this.

PS: I have also found a few other cases of chest pains with coconut oil from google search.

My god I'm totally blown away by this website. It is without doubt the best website on the planet. For many years I have suffered with back pain, chronic fatigue and depression. I keep telling my doctor that all my symtoms point to a thyroid issue but she will not listen. I did have some thyroid tests done but they came back normal. Symtoms are hair loss on shins, calves, eybrows, cold hands, cold feet, zero sex drive, depression, chronic fatigue, unable to lose weight, lower back pain, knee pain, pain in wrists, pain in ankles, pain in all joints, constipation and yes even thoughts of suicide. I thought I was almost on to finding the solution when I started taking my Nascent iodine supplement last week. The reason why I thought I might be iodine deficient is after spraying a cut with iodine about an hour later I started to feel great, no brain fog and felt happy. I assumed wrongly or rightly that is must be an iodine defiency. Anyway I went out and purchased some Nascent iodine. According to the Nascent instructions you take 1 drop in 3 to 6 oz water or topically for the first, increasing 1 drop each day for 5 days. On the 5th day I took 5 drops and later felt very faint and light headed. Also it felt as though my heart was pumping faster and I must admit I was quite scared. I then read about Virgin Coconut oil and decided to give it a go. I took a tablespoon in the morning together within my muesli and with an hour I started to feel that a great weight had lifted from me. I couldn't believe it, I went out for a run and actually felt happy and motivated for the first time in many years. I am also losing weight, for some reason it seems to raise your metabolism. I take a tablespoon in the morning with breakfast, a tablespoon with my lunch and a tablespoon with my dinner. It is nothing short of amazing, thanks so much for all the wonderful people on earthclinic. Coconut oil may not work for everyone but it certainly works for me. Good luck to all.

Hi Bessie! Well, the experiment works! 10 lbs every 2 weeks! HOWEVER, I now know I'm allergic to this nut as well. Had to make a choice between extreme eczema or weight loss. Chose my skin which is getting better now that I've stopped the VCO. Also noticed my blood pressure slipping higher which ceased when I stopped imbibing VCO. Sigh! What next? mmmm.. I'm working on it..

THE VCO EXPERIMENT. I fluctuate at 176-180lbs because I do have a thyroid/metabolism problem. I try to always eat a healthy low carb diet as it combats my allergies and at least keeps my weight stable. BUT, I think I may have solved my thyroid and weight problem by ingesting coconut oil and water ONLY for breakfast and lunch and as a nighttime snack as needed.

Here is what I do and it works: Breakfast and Lunch consists of 1-2 tablespoons of VCO with water. Dinner consists of satiety level meat, salad, raw berries, sauteed veggies, and any vitamins I feel I need. Sometimes when eating out, I will include limited rice, white or sweet potato, or whole corn. I try never to eat wheat, bread, milk, SOY, sugar or polyunsaturated oils.

THE EXPERIMENT started: A more than hectic, rushed week began with no time to eat breakfast or lunch; so I ingested 1-2 tablespoons of VCO and drank water for these meals. Well, lo and behold, I did not miss the meals and found that I had tremendous energy, clarity, eyesight and was hungry-less while I only partook of the oil. By dinner time, I began to feel hungry and ate the low-carb meal described above. Within two days, my OH-SO-TIGHT-AROUND-THE-WAIST jeans were not so tight; I wasn't nearly as bloated in the mornings. So I continued this for the rest of the week, finally getting on the scale for my usual Friday weighin, thinking I might see a huge weight gain from all that oil. I had lost 6 pounds in 5 days!

The following days, I purposely went back to my usual low car regime, eating a normal breakfast, lunch, and dinner cooked with VCO or Palm oil and quickly gained the pounds back. I am now 2 days into trying THE EXPERIMENT again and have already lost 2 pounds. I still don't get hungry or feel fatigued, quite the opposite, again. Now, I am aware that coconut oil does not give all the nutrients the body needs so I try to make dinner as nutrient dense as possible, including a multivitamin. I am going to continue THE EXPERIMENT of 2 meals VCO and 1 off and will post in a month (8-18-10) on my progress or lack thereof. By the way, my thyroid loves this as well only experiencing pain when I eat soy out at restaurants. When the throat pain begins, I put a drop of lugol's iodine with a drop of coconut oil on my neck and the pain subsides within 5-10 minutes. SOY is SUCH a bugger!

I began taking a tablespoon of coconut oil in my morning tea each day. On about the 4th day, I suffered from chest pains which I had never experienced before. I discontinued use to rule out other possibilities, and when I reintroduced it, I suffered from the chest pains once again. I began taking the coconut oil to help a sluggish thyroid, but have stopped taking it since my negative experiences with it. I am 27 and in excellent health.

Thanks to this site I have been able to contol the symtoms of an inactive thyroid. I take 2 tablesspoons of EVCO in small glass of orange juice morning and night . This has given me energy, I am now able to exercise 4 times a week, stopped the constipation.Improved my moods and increased my general wellbeing. It did not decrease my weight so i have started counting the calories. I used to be able to feel my thyriod constricting, now that has gone, so I know that the EVCO is having a direct effect on my thyroid. I have not decreased my medicine -1 thyroxine per day and my scan shows no change to the thyroid surface, but the EVCO has given me my motivation back.

The Doctor says I have an autoimmune response to my thyroid "hasimoto desease". Is there any suggestion to how else this may be treated? Thanks

RONG>My thyroid level was low. The doctor said I must go on thyroid prescription. I said give me a few months to try virgin organic coconut oil.
I took 3 to 4 tablespoons daily in smoothies or melted on salad or just ate it. (It looks like crisco, which worried me, but I was determined not to have a lifelong prescrip.) At the next blood test in 4 months my thyroid function was "excellent" and to top it off my cholesterol had dropped the bad level and raised the good level. The docotor was pleased. I needed no prescription. I did gain 2 pounds, but considering how much oil I ate and for how long it was not an is

Coconut Oil for Hypothyroid patients: I heard that virgin coconut oil was a good supplement for people suffering with hypothyroidism. I went to a natural food market and bought a jar of it. That was 2 months ago and I have gone back to buy more several times. I am taking 3 tablespoons in the morning. It has not helped with my weight although I know a few people who used it and lost weight immediately. It has stopped my hair loss (it use to fall out by the handful) and in fact not only is my hair thicker but my eyebrows are growing back. I no longer have cold hands and feet either. It doesn't cure thyroid problems but it certainly is a great supplement to help with the effects of the disease.

i found out i was hypo in Sept 07. have never been overweight ..read about VCO so i tried it for a month but have gained weightI went from size 4 to 6 in a short time. i exercise alot and have not changed my eating habits with the exception of adding VCO to my diet. I would have 1lbs on my toast in the morning and then cook with another tbls at night. i started taking it for additional energy and softer skin...but the only thing i got was thicker thighs and stomach. i just had my endo appt this week and still had to increase my meds as the THS levels were still not close to normal. I guess I was the exception!

I have had a chronic thyroid condition including goiter and hypothyroidism for years. I have been taking thyroidisine prescribed by my doctor, 1.75 mg per day for 1 1?2 years. The weight loss was slow and I always feel as If there is something stuck in my throat. I would often start coughing and throwing up, because of the condition. my T3 levels were at 90, after a year they are at 3, finally. However I now take coconut oil reliving the constant pain in my neck, therefore i take it everyday. it makes me feel alive, after many years. The weight loss has been slow, I will mix a tablespoon in my coffee in the morning. I spread it on bananas, just so I am getting the desired amount. I find it still hard to swallow, and when I combine my thyroid prescription with the oil, It makes all the difference in my comfort level of my neck area. Slowly, the goiter is shrinking. i will continue to buy coconut oil, the benefits are very great. It still often uncomfortable and I have weight to lose, It is a slow process, but the oil makes a great difference in my energy and throat irritation.

[WITH SIDE EFFECT] I began using VCO on doctor's orders to help combat hypothyroid. My skin, hair, energy levels were all positive results. I also used VCO as a deodorant. However, after a few days I began gaining weight, got dizzy spells and some diarrhea. My blood pressure soared! After continued trials for a couple of weeks, my doctor advised me to stop using it. This was disappointment as I got good results in other areas; however, every attempt made to try it again caused my BP to go higher. I do full body cleanses once or twice a year. Possibly it might help if I did just liver cleanse? I'm 60 years old, exercise daily, eat healthy foods, do drink 1.5 cups coffee in morning and am Blood Type A. Disappointed as not being able to use coconut oil due to HBP. Would appreciate any comments on my HBP problem to be answered on this site. Any insight would be beneficial. Thanks, a CA gal

I was diagnosed with mild Hypothyroidism in May 2006, studied the benefits of VCO and started to use it shortly after. For the first 6 manths I experienced an increased energy and a better digestion. However this effect did not last. The oil did not have any effect on the funtion of my Thyroid and my general wellbeing. I am still using the VCO internally(every heated meal is prepared with it) and I also use it externally (on some parts of my body). I do this, because I am convinced by the benefits of this oil. However it does have not any dramatic effect, as testified by others. Since about one week I am having digestion problems and feel congested in my liver and spleen area. I am still on my Thyroid medication (50 mcg of Euthyrox). Does anyone have a similar experience that they seem not to benefit so much from the oil? I am of the blood type O and according to the bloodype diet I should avoid coconut and also the oil from it. Has anybody experiences with the effect of VCO on blood type O people?

I began taking coconut oil about June 1st this summer, primarily for my long term hypothyroidism. Now not yet 3 months later I am completely off my synthroid and cytomel. I was on more than 300 mcg for about 7 years. It has changed my life. I feel so much better than I did on the thyroid meds. I am not cold, I am sleeping better. It made a herpes outbreak completely dissappear in 4 hours when applied topically. my periods which have been abnormal all my life are normalizing,(I am 45) and I am finding that I am eating smaller meals and more satisfied and not hungry. I swear I can hear the click in my head that says I have had enough to eat! Ive lost 10 lbs. I attribute it all to 4tbsp VCO a day(2w bfst/1w lunch/1w dinner) and also trace minerals, and fish oil. none or very little bread and refined carbs. I did have a day of scary high blood pressure symptoms, after which I reduced my meds by 1/3rd, and the symptoms went away. A wwk or so later when I began feeling the same things again, I reduced my meds again and again until I quit all together. the last step is to get my blood levels tested by my doc, just to confirm I am doing as great as I feel, tho I am starting to think it is not necessary, except to gloat to my dr.

I have read a lot of the comments about the VCO and its problems. i have been taking VCO & ACV (Read my testimonial) for over 10 years. In addition to both of these natural cures I also take 1/2 lemon & 1 tbsp. of Sea Salt each day with 8 oz. of warm water. This lemon/sea salt drink is a natural cleanser for your liver & digestive tract. If anyone is scared of the VCO causing liver problems then this might benefit them. The VCO does give you a oily discharge and gas but the benefits far outweigh the negative. I have taken several body cleanses and the natural, cheap and easiest way to do a body cleanse is to take the VCO twice daily (I mix mine with vanilla yogurt) and you will dispel the parasites that cause illnesses and clean your intestinal tract that when old food is not dispelled causes diseases. I do the lemon drink first thing then my VCO with yogurt and then my ACV & water and I am ready with so much energy to start my day. I have my thyroid and weight under control due to this regimen.

I also use VCO instead of body lotion or hair conditioner. I had very dry hair, skin and cuticles due to a thyroid problem but once I started the VCO it went away. I also make a VCO & Sea Salt scrub that does double duty because it opens your pores of the skin to dispel toxins and softens your skin. I am a 48 year old red head grandmother that looks in her 30's because of this great oil. I have 3 incurable diseases that I take no medication for except for my thyroid medication and my dosage keeps getting smaller & smaller each time my blood work is done.

I have found many cures for illnesses that are natural and have not been to a doctor in 4 years except for my yearly Lupus physical.

I started taking it because I read it could help regulate my thyroid. Even tho medicated for my hypothyroid, I continue to have symptoms. I began coconut oil and found I had to reduce my levothyroxine by 1/3 2 weeks after starting taking about 3 tbsp daily. I am hoping it will continue to get better!

My daughter and I are experimenting with the coconut oil and have seen some great results immediately. Her thyroid is working at 20 percent and the swelling is already going down after one week. I am taking it for the overall effects and also an organic liquid vitamin and am feeling great and have more energy. There are some small spots that look like melanoma from the sun and I'm putting the oil directly on them. I'm hoping to see results from that. Will keep you posted. I'm so happy we came across this. It's also helped with a very sensitive stomach.

I have been suffering with the symptoms describing hypothyroidism. Last week I started the EVCO and added the ACV, of course, decided to throw in the molasses. I will keep you all posted on my progress, trying to feel better and lose the 40 pounds I have picked up. Today I write because I have come up with a great drink. It kills two birds with one stone. Here goes: ONE LARGE MUG 2 BAGS OF LIPTON CARMEL TRUFFLE TEA ONE TBSP EVCO [Extra Virgin Coconut Oil] ONE TBPS BLACK STRAP MOLASSES ONE HALF TO ONE TBSP HONEY POUR BOILING WATER OVER THE INGREDIENTS IN MUG AND STIR GENTLY WHILE STEEPING TO MELT THE COCONUT OIL.

I could not stand the taste of the molasses, however it is so yummy in this tea. Hope you like it. I have noticed since the evco and acv that like most everyone else, my ENERGY has soared, skin soft, body temp up, hair and nails gowing, dry seriously cracking heels softer and healing (using oil dirrectly) no more claritin, sleeping better, brighter outlook. This is only my seventh day. At first I seemed to gain a little weight, but just today I noticed the scale is down 1 pound. I am keeping at it and will keep you posted.

Hypothyroid / Coconut Oil: I suffer from hypothyroid and have taken levoxyl for about 7 years. I also have suffered with fatigue for most of my 47 years for a wide variety of reasons (anemia, depression, hypothyroid, sleep apnea, RLS). It seems I have every condition that can rob one of sleep and energy. Anyway, I was looking for a natural form of thyroid support and came upon information about coconut oil being helpful (about two weeks ago). I just found this wonderful site this week, which I intend to frequent OFTEN, and I thought I'd contribute my experience with coconut oil. So far (2 weeks) I have a bit more energy. I have gained about 8 pounds since January (I tend to be slim), which I want to lose. I hope the energy helps the weight loss. I'll keep you posted.

I had a low functioning thyroid, very dry hair and skin. Since taking the Virgin Coconut Oil I no longer need my thyroid meds. My hair is soft and silky and my skin has dramatically improved. I cook with it and I also put it on my face 2x per day. What a miracle, I have also noticed an increase in energy. Other cure I found for it was diaper rash. My baby had a really bad rash while teething, her bottom would bleed and none of the creams at the store seemed to do anything at all, so I tried the coconut oil and with one application her bottom cleared up dramatically and the next day it was completely gone!

I take Virgin Coconut Oil for thyroid function. It has cured flaky skin, cholesterol, glucose. I dropped almost 10 points on glucose, my skin is so soft I feel new! My good cholesterol was raised by 10 points, also. I am careful to take this everyday at the same time, with the same amount ingested (1 Tablespoon). I have never experienced any of the problems reported. It has made my skin so soft that my husband has to touch me all the time!! He can't believe the difference! I have always been very careful of eating right and exercising--this fits right in with my other regimes.

I provide health product recommendations to people and this is one of my top items, along with Apple Cider Vinegar.
