As we age, frailty is a real problem that can lead to other serious health problems created mainly from falling. So it is in our best interest to try to fend off frailty before it becomes a problem for us. This post will discuss how the 8 components of the Positive Health Loop (PHL) can work against frailty before it even gets started. Specifically for frailty, I have suggested protein as a ninth component and will discuss it below.
For those who want to quickly get to the point, I have included a succinct summary at the bottom of this post.
The PHL has a fairly strong theoretical fit for delaying age-related frailty, although I would distinguish that from saying the PHL has been clinically proven to prevent frailty as a package. The strongest evidence is for exercise and adequate nutrition; the other PHL components potentially reinforce the biological systems that allow an older person to remain strong, mobile, metabolically resilient, and cognitively functional.
