What is Leukorrhea?

Leukorrhea is a term used to refer to excessive vaginal discharge that occurs during pregnancy. While the term sounds complex, the condition is quite simple. Leukorrhea, or white vaginal discharge during pregnancy, is typically the result of an increase in hormone levels.

Leukorrhea is very common and is typically nothing to cause worry. Normal discharge should be white, milky-looking, and free of odor. The discharge may also appear to have sticky or mucus-like clumps in it.  Leukorrhea is the result of an increase in hormones, particularly estrogen, and a greater blood flow to the vaginal area. The discharge made up of a combination of secretions from the cervix and vagina including old cells and normal bacterial flora from the vagina.

Natural Treatments for Leukorrhea

While leukorrhea is typically a condition associated with pregnancy, some females may experience it at other points of their lives as well. An apple cider vinegar douche of one part distilled water and one part apple cider vinegar can help treat the condition. Additionally, drinking diluted apple cider vinegar can also help. Changing the diet is another option. Eliminating any foods with added hormones –dairy, milk, beef, and chicken–and avoiding sugar is crucial. Likewise, taking probiotics daily and increasing ones intake of leafy green veggies also helps.
