Epsom salt soak for ganglion cyst on finger

I had a ganglion cyst on the first joint from the top of my middle finger. I tried many remedies, draining it, applying different remedies with a bandage. It always grew back, and was painful if it was bumped.

What worked for me was putting about a heaping teaspoon of epsom salt in a cup of warm water. I used a small coffee cup. Put my finger in it for about 30 minutes everyday. Just watched tv or read while I soaked. Within a week it was almost gone. So simple. It has been a few years now and it has never returned.

Iodine Supplementation for Ganglion Cysts

Years ago, I had a ganglion cyst on my middle finger for a long time. I saw a hand doctor and general practitioner with no help. I then read an article by Dr David Brownstein where he said that all cysts are caused by low iodine in the body. I put some iodine from the Drug Store on it and by the third day it was almost gone. I recently felt a cyst returning in that area and took some iodine internally. In a few days the area was clear again.

Frankincense Oil for Ganglion Cysts

At the beginning pf the year I discovered that I had a Ganglion cyst on the outside of my right ankle. I went to the doctor to get it looked at and they basically said there was nothing that I could do and that it would probably dissolve over the year. They would not drain it for me or do surgery to remove it. I asked if there was any natural way of getting rid of it and I had 2 doctors say no. Fast forward 6 months later, its still there and gets really swollen at the end of the day due me standing on my feet for 8 1/2 hours everyday. The outside of my left ankle has now started to develop a Cyst as well. I came across this chat thread and was so excited to read peoples success stories in getting rid of their cysts. For the past 2 days I have been Massaging in Frankincense Oil onto the Cysts in the morning and then when I get home in the evening I soak both of my feet up to my ankles in a Eucalyptus/Peppermint Epsom Salt bath for 20 minutes. This is followed by another round of me massaging Frankincense Oil onto the Cysts. This morning when I woke up I immediately noticed the difference on my right ankle. Usually when I wake up the swelling has gone down but you can still see the bump on my ankle. There was no bump on my ankle this morning. I see no difference on the left side so far but that cyst is a-lot smaller and just started to develop. I am hoping that I'm not sharing these results too soon but I am excited to see if they completely go away. I will continue to do this routine for the next couple of weeks till there are no swelling or bumps.

Borax Shrank a Ganglion Cyst

Deirdre (NC) on 05/31/2023

I had a ganglion cyst on my wrist for a number of years. It was a little smaller than the size of a pea. Well, I just realized it is completely gone! Since being consistent with the borax protocol healed my trigger thumb in 4 months last summer and early fall, I'm guessing borax also was the key remedy that shrank my ganglion cyst. Wow. A doctor had told me it would never go away in 2018. Tried all the remedies mentioned on Earth Clinic for a ganglion cyst, and none helped at all. Amazing.

Here is a pic of what my ganglion cyst looked like. Mine was about 1/3 the size of this woman's cyst, so you get an idea of how much it shrank!

Aloe for a Ganglion Cyst

Had a fairly large cyst on top of my dominant hand. Tried castor oil, and frankincense for a few weeks and nothing happened. Then I watched a video and a woman said one of the remedies is fresh aloe gel twice a day for 20 min. I left the aloe on there and covered with a bandaid. At night, I did the frankincense and a drop of castor oil. It took a few weeks but woke up this morning and the cyst is gone. Plus you need patience. Don’t give up too soon.

The Book Method for a Ganglion Cyst

Homeschool Mom (Minneapolis, MN) on 08/17/2021

I have had a ganglion cyst a bit larger than a lentil right in the bend/crease where my ring finger meets my palm. I believe that it was caused when I wore a ring while paddling a kayak vigorously that had a paddle that wasn't properly round so the ring pressed into my skin more than I have ever experienced. The cyst has been around for about a month and I've had to remove my ring during that time, hoping for healing.

I decided to try the book method, but I was too chicken to tap and work my way up to more force. I grabbed a small hardcover book with binding about 3/4" wide and gave a firm thump right on the cyst. I thumped hard enough to kill a wasp, but not hard enough to obliterate it into a pancake. The cyst felt slightly less hard and the surrounding area was ever so slightly sore. I grabbed an ice pack and iced it for 10 minutes and the cyst is completely gone. No pain, and now I can move that finger without pain, either!

I'll give it a week to heal completely before putting my beloved ring back onto that finger, but I am so grateful for this solution.

The Hammer Worked Instead of a Book for Ganglion Cysts

Mama T (Nv) on 08/13/2021

I had injured my ankle and went to the chiropractor. The next morning I had needle pain in my big toe and a ganglion cyst on the bottom of my foot on the tendon to my big toe! I went back to the chiropractor and he worked on my foot some more. He said the cyst will not go away and I may have to have it drained! OR he said "you could hit it with a hammer"!

I went home and looked it up on line and saw the medical remedy for draining it and blah blah. Then I went on earthclinic.com and saw this treatment.

I used a hammer! It took a lot of whacking and then I iced it! Now it is greatly reduced! Maybe a book gives you a broader surface area for hitting the cyst.

Thank goodness for Earth Clinic.

EC: Hmmm... 17 readers on Earth Clinic used a book, not a hammer, but please share the post where you read about using a hammer for a ganglion cyst!

Physiotherapy Has Flattened Ganglion Cyst

I had a ganglion cyst in the upper part (hairy) of my left wrist for more than six years. I have tried the needle method and it got swollen again and refiled in few months. Frankincense Essential Oil didn' t work for me either.

The following instructional video saved me:

"How I Fixed the Ganglion Cyst in My Wrist"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEc-tAmbdzk

So I followed the three pillars:

1) I removed the prolonged tension in the area by buying an ergonomic vertical left hand mouse. It has a different hand grip from common mouses. Prolonged mouse usage is thought by many doctors to cause ganglion cysts in the wrist.

2) I bought a foam roller and applied it to my upper forearm and wrist.

3) I did some dumbbell (5kgr) exercises by lifting it up just by moving the wrist (palm facing upward) to strengthen the antagonistic muscles.

In about two months my swollen ganglion cyst has almost flattened and the results lasts until now for many months.

One thing that did work for the cyst on my wrist was a magnetic bracelet. This was a lot less painful that the 2 times it was popped before.

Binding Pressure Method for Ganglion Cysts

I have a ganglion cyst that formed on the knuckle of my middle finger, right hand. I'm right handed, so this located exactly where you would rest a pencil to write. It keeps returning, but read all of the Earth Clinic messages about ganglion cysts. I first tried the essential oils remedy. Nothing really changed. It eventually grew big enough to pop, and that was a relief. But it came back, I noticed when I had accidentally bumped that spot on something.

Next I tried the pressure idea. This has been the most successful so far. I have used a ordinary bandage over it to protect it from getting bumped. I used an Emu blended moisturizing cream to put on the cyst before bandage is applied. Kept it on for 3 days, and the cyst slowly shrank to almost flat. I think it needs to stay moist to avoid drying out and cracking open and starting a new cyst over.

Would like to work on getting at the root of the cyst. But at least I have worked out a technique to keep this in check. Thank you all for posting your solutions to this bothersome bump!!! Love Earth Clinic.

Researched all methods and decided to try the book method. I used a heavy rock coaster used to place glasses on. I gave it a firm direct hit. Not to hard! And it's now gone. I couldnt believe it! Now I'll be waiting to see if it comes back.

One hit and it was gone ;-)

I've had a ganglion cyst on my left wrist for about 8 weeks. I tried it all, black tee tee-bags, Echinacea creme, Echinacea tea, Frankincense oil, wrist bandage, nothing seemed to do anything and I started looking into the needle and the book solution. But during my research I found out that the success rate is really low on the needle syringe thing (13%) - very likely coming back, but the book version nearly 50% so I decided to give this a try, as it seems less invasive and less painful.

At some point I found this page which was very helpful, then I looked through youtube videos from people who have tried it. I even found a scientific study working through the videos - "Blunt Force may be an effective treatment for ganglion cysts"(https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4916095/) - then I was convinced it was the best solution.

Put my left leg up the bench like in some videos and put the hand on my knee, bent slightly so my small, but hard ganglion cyst showed more. Someone else gave it a stronger hit and it was gone :-) . It barely hurt, put some ice on it for 10 min, after it didn't hurt at all. I can still feel something tiny remaining on my wrist, but it doesn't pop out, so I will give it some time to completely feel like my other wrist.

Applying Pressure Worked for New Ganglion Cyst

Susan (Lafayette, In) on 04/06/2018

A ganglion cyst appeared almost overnight on the inside of my right wrist during a lupus flare. It was extremely painful, and pressure increased the pain. After about 8 days the pain went away, but then the cyst started growing and freaking me out.

A friend told me about the book bashing treatment, which I rejected out of hand. But after a few hours, I decided to try pressure on the cyst, I. e., a less extreme version of book smashing. The first time I applied pressure with my left thumb I heard something crunching. Applied pressure again, heard crunching again, and whoopee! The cyst was gone, no residual pain or impaired movement.

Castor Oil and Frankincense Oil for Ganglion Cyst

Christine (South Africa) on 03/12/2018

I had a ganglion cyst on my second big toe. I left it because it did not bother me and because years ago I had one on my finger and after a few months it disappeared. This one on my toe did not go away and kept on growing till it was about 7mm in diameter and touching my big toe so I started looking at Earth Clinic for help. I started rubbing on castor oil and Frankincense oil 3 x a day ( because I had those oils in the cupboard!). One week later it had formed a scab which I could lift off and so it went on till it was gone. I am so happy with Earth Clinic advice!

Ganglion Cyst Removal

Chip (St. Augustine, Fl) on 02/27/2018

Getting Rid of a ganglion cyst:

I have tried it out on several people and it works consistently. I am 70 and have a girl friend who has been affected by a painful ganglion cyst.

A few words of warning: A key feature of this protocol is DMSO. There is a lot on the web about it, however I have found it hard to find a bunch of the gotchas about using it in one place. So before we get into the protocol a few words about DMSO.

DMSO is an all natural product as it is a byproduct of processing wood into wood pulp for making paper. DMSO stands for Dimethyl Sulfoxide. It has been used for a wide variety of medical problems since the 19960's. It is readily used throughout much of the world, however in the U.S., Big Pharma has convinced the FDA not approve it's use for medical purposes except under extremely limited circumstances. In spite of that, it is still used extensively by veterinarians and it is legal for human use in Oregon and Florida. I

In spite of it's near miraculous properties, it is a strong solvent and it is best to take a few precautions. One of the basic properties is that it transports whatever is on the skin into the body to which it is applied. Therefore, it is essential that hands be cleaned as well as that area of the body where it is to be applied.

When it is used to help heal ganglion cysts I like to start by applying a dilute essential oil mixture to the affected area. I use a small glass roll-on- bottle (readily available on line.) I use a 3 to 5% solution of Organic Frankincense and Carrot Seed essential oils. (note that the non-organic essential oils are often synthetic and should not be topically applied.)

I use coconut oil or rose hip oil as carrier oils. They both help protect the skin and shield it from the solvent DMSO effects. Although sometimes just the Frankincense by itself works to eliminate the ganglion cyst.

The DMSO should be either 50 or 70% gel solutions cut with Aloe Vera and scented with an essential oil. (This is readily available on line.) Although the unscented DMSO will work, most people who use it get a garlic like smell given off from their pores. Although it is available in 99.95% pure solutions a 50 to 70% solution is more readily absorbed. Later I say slather the DMSO on, not rub it in. The more it is rubbed the more it can irritate the skin.

The Protocol:

  1. Coat the ganglion cyst with the diluted Essential Oil mixture.

  2. Apply a poultice of Epsom salt mixed with a little coconut oil to the ganglion cyst.

  3. Slather on the DMSO over the Epsom salt poultice and leave on for about 25 minutes.

  4. Usually within 10 minutes the cyst will feel better.

  5. Apply this protocol 3 or 4 times a day until the cyst disappears, then continue for 2 weeks to ensure the roots of the cyst are destroyed.

  6. <

I had a "Bible Bump" on my pinky that was quite painful. It went away on its own only to return. I tried the "Bible" method - it came back once after a period of time, so I gave it another go. That was about 3 years ago - has not yet returned. FYI - I tried this because an orthopedic surgeon recommended it to me (I'm an orthopedic nurse).
