Keep Your Liver And Gallbladder Citrus-Clean
I was speaking to a man with two 1cm gallstones. When he over-ate fatty foods he would get intense pain and shortness of breath.
He said, I have used a tonic of purified water and D-limonene (Orange terpenes, aka Sweet Orange Oil) in it's food grade form and within an hour, the attack subsides. Has anyone experimented with this? It feels too good to be true but has worked consistently.
His formula: It's probably around 1ml (20 drops) per 12-16 oz of water. Smells great and tastes fine. Makes my tongue and lips tingle though. I'm not one to distrust medical science but I did not want to get my gallbladder removed and be perpetually vulnerable to diarrhea and dumping syndrome or what have you.
D-limonene is a naturally occurring compound found in the peels of citrus fruits like lemons, oranges (the highest), and grapefruits. It’s what gives citrus its vibrant scent — and its powerful cleaning abilities. You’ve probably seen it listed on household products as a natural “degreaser.” That’s because it has surfactant and emulsifying properties that cut through grime and grease with ease.
Now imagine applying that same cleansing power inside your body — especially to help a sluggish gallbladder or sluggish liver bile flow.
In the human body, D-limonene does more than just smell good. Research has shown that it can dissolve gallstones in some cases — yes, dissolve. One clinical study revealed a 67% success rate in dissolving gallstones with D-limonene, without the need for surgery or medication. That’s significant.
Beyond that, D-limonene supports the flow of bile — an essential fluid that helps digest fats — and improves peristalsis, the natural movement of the intestines. This makes it a gentle, effective remedy for occasional heartburn, indigestion, and constipation.

Retained gallstones in the bile ducts account for 60-70% of all the cases of postcholecystectomy syndromes. A solvent d-limonene preparation was injected directly to the biliary system of 200 patients to dissolve or disintegrate the retained gallstones. The outcomes were: retained stones completely disappeared in 96 cases (48%); partial dissolution in 29 (14.5%); chelating agent was also used with partial dissolution in 16 (8%); ineffective in 59 (24.5%). To make this method more effective, several guidelines should be observed including an in vitro trial dissolution test. Cautious observation for possible side effects and frequent hepatic and pancreatic function tests during the treatment with this preparation also should be performed.
While D-limonene supplements and essential oils are available, you don’t need to go far to reap its benefits. A simple and powerful way to incorporate D-limonene into your daily routine is by drinking warm lemon water in the morning just like grandma use too. Fresh lemon juice can help kickstart digestion, support your liver, and stimulate bile flow naturally.
