Here are some relevant quotes from the study :
' In the global sleep quality measure (PSQI questionnaire), the control group did better than the T2DM group, indicating lower sleep quality and a greater incidence of sleep problems. Melatonin production lacked rhythmicity and was lower in patients with T2DM than in controls both during the day and at night. The T2DM group showed greater levels of chemerin, IL-1, and a negative connection between melatonin and chemerin levels than the control group. '
' The results suggest that the low melatonin production seen in the T2DM group was most likely the underlying cause of the sleep pathology seen there. It is most probable that high levels of chemerin, which have been linked to other pathologies in the past, are to blame for the blocking of melatonin production in T2DM. '
' The global mean PSQI score for those with T2DM was 7.3 ± 33.3, whereas it was just 3.91 ± 1.1 for those without the disease, which means that the T2DM group slept less well]. In addition, 81.81% more people in the T2DM group had sleep problems than those in the control group (62.72%) . '
' The recent research found that 90% of diabetic patients suffer from some kind of sleep disruption, which is much greater than the incidence of sleep disturbance earlier documented in other illnesses (59% in age- and sex-matched control participants). Sleep quality affects vitality and morbidity and therefore plays a crucial role in overall health.[17, 18] The fact that the diabetes complication of insomnia affects many people underscores its seriousness. Previous research on other conditions has also shown that sleep disorders cause daytime sleepiness and problems with many functions such as the immune system and heart health.[17, 19, 20] '
Recently I posted about how melatonin can help heal diabetic wounds here :
https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/leg_ulcers2.html#melatonin
This 2025 meta analysis of 8 qualifying studies indicates that melatonin allows better glycemic control in T2DM patients :
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39428939/
Here is a relevant study quote :
' According to the results of the current meta-analysis, persons with type 2 diabetes who supplement with melatonin had improved glycemic control. It looks that supplementing with melatonin at a dose exceeding 6 mg daily for over a period of 12 weeks may be more successful than other forms of intervention. '
Overall, it appears that melatonin is worthy of consideration and discussing with your doctor for T2DM.

Many diabetes patients feedback that soursop leaves lower their blood sugar level.
Try drinking soursop leaves on empty stomach.

My husband (age 82) has been prediabetic for several years, his A1C recently went over 7. so his doctor put him on a weekly injection (very expensive) the first one went ok, the next week he became very ill, vomiting and diarrhea..... stopped that medication immediately. I had read here about taking kefir; we bought a store brand at our health food store that contained L. casei and L achidophilus, he drinks a cup in the morning on an empty stomach, some days he forgets so it is about 4 days per week, in about a month his blood sugar has gone from the 140s to 100-110. If you are diabetic this is certainly worth trying.

I am in my mid fifties male, otherwise healthy but for the last few years I have been afflicted by digestive problems esp bloating, I have tried everything there is to try! With minimal results but as soon as I tried the mung beans soaked water, it worked straight away! I am absolutely gobsmacked such a simple addition to my routine made such a difference even within 3 days,
Also a big thank you to all those working hard to keep Earth Clinic going, it is been my go to reference for many years! Absolute goldmine for health.
Keep up the good work,

Big Pharma is using you as an ATM machine and you'll never be cured just managed. Stop eating carbs / sugar - that's feeds the cancer cells you have in your body. Give your body what it needs to heal itself because God made us that way.

My Health background: I take Metformin 500mg twice a day for Diabetes, I take heart medicine after a Cardiac Arrest due to a choked artery in April 2022, I take ACV for controlling Uric Acid along with anti-inflammation medicine Cholchicine 0.6 mg twice a day. Age 65 yrs old.
Improvement in Diabetes discovered by accident:
Before starting this alternate treatment, my morning fasting sugar reading was 125-130mg/dL for the last 3 1/2 years. Started taking Fenugreek seeds 1 teaspoon soaked in water equivalent to 1 glass of water put in a regular basic clay container/cup/jar for 24 hour (If prefer to keep it for 48 hours before consuming. I found it to be more effective) . This quantity I take just before each meal( that is 3 times a day). I bought my clay container from a Pakistani Halal grocery store here in the USA. The way I consume is to drink the water which will have a golden color. Then chew the seeds and chase it with some regular water. The taste is like eating celery (like raw vegetable with a slight bitter taste).
Diabetes morning fasting 1st week came down to 103mg/dL. 2nd week 95mg/dL.
I am in my 2nd week now. After 2 hours of consuming afternoon meals, it has dropped from a range of 180-200mg/dL to 140-150mg/dL after consuming fenugreek seeds. This is only taking Fenugreek seeds and no medicine (metformin).
By the way, I have added about a pinch of Black seeds in my Fenugreek seeds drink for overall health. I hope this info is helpful.

I think he is right that we must eat more healthily, and perhaps this is the answer to a lot of our ills. But by adding fruits, high carb vegetables, am I doing myself harm?

My late partner had type two for like over 20 yrs before we got together. In 2015 he was diagnosed with bowel cancer, but I'd like to share a part of our story with the hope that it helps you too.
We heard about black seed oil (nigella sativa), so I started to do some research and we both started taking it. I took maintenance dose and he slowly increased to a higher dose.
The black seed oil (BSO) helped a lot, at times he could go without his insulin. If he wasn't on chemo, he could have controlled it a lot easier. It also helped with his liver and immune.
Black seed oil has the potential to cure everything they say. It's proven to help me in my digestive problems, OA pain, sinuses, dry eyes and prevents colds and flu's and keeps my immune strong.
There are plenty of studies and articles on BSO.
WHAT IS THE BEST BSO?

Hope this helps you.
Good luck

I tried every diet to no avail. Then I started eating fruit (I never would because it raised my sugars so high! ) To my surprise, I started monitoring my blood sugar. The insulin indeed did spike (which is normal when you eat), but the difference was, it came right back down quickly! When I ate meat or fats, it would stay elevated longer (which is NOT what you want)!
Then started listening to Dr John McDougall who believes you should eat potatoes, rice, corn, and barley (to which I thought he had to be crazy). Well, I wasn't consistent with the eating at first because it's so hard to change, but after three weeks of eating a lot of fruit in the mornings, and potatoes (who doesn't love potatoes???) my fasting blood sugar is down to 105 in the mornings! It was 157-179 before. I'm so excited!

There are about 300 to 500 different kinds of bacteria in our digestive systems. There is a video available on the net from the Diabetic research center at the University of Copenhagen titled “Type 2 diabetes may be caused by gut bacteria”. This research center is one of the top diabetic research centers in the world. According to this research center, the probiotic imbalance problem is common to all diabetes 2.
Probiotic imbalance implies the percentage of bad bacteria in the digestive system is high compared to that of non-diabetes.. There are two ways to correct this probiotic imbalance problem in Diabetes 2:
1) Reduce the count of bad bacteria in the digestive system. This can be done by consuming anti bacterial substances ( e.g. black cumin seeds, Hydrogen Peroxide, etc). But they will kill bad bacteria as well as probiotic bacteria. But one has to adjust the dosage so that it will kill the maximum number of bad bacteria and low number of probiotic bacteria.
2) Increase the count of probiotic (good) bacteria in the digestive system. This can be done by consuming probiotic substances (e.g. Kefir, Probiotic capsules, etc). There is no need to adjust the dosage. This is the one I like since it is very simple.
Probiotics like Kefir, probiotic capsules, are not available in many rural parts of Asia and Africa. But Mung beans are available in those areas. I am suggesting a simple way to produce probiotic water using Mung beans. It is as follows:
1) Take one third cup (75cc) of Mung beans and wash thoroughly with clean water at night. Drain and add about one and a half cup (300cc) of fresh water.
2) Allow about 6 to 8 hours of fermentation. Separate the fermented water.
3) Drink this fermented probiotic water in the morning on empty stomach for 8 to 12 weeks.
4) If a person is taking blood sugar lowering drugs, dizziness may be experienced by the person indicating low blood sugar. He should stop taking blood sugar lowering drugs and consult your doctor to find out whether the drugs are needed for you.
People who tried this simple protocol came out of Diabetes 2 after the treatment.
Best wishes.

70% Fats (good fats) or 113 grams
20% Protein or 73 grams
10% Carbs or 36 grams (I usually just keep this below 50 grams)
I am way not perfect, but I try to be in the ball-park and one thing I do is weigh my foods, I know my BMI, and my Total Daily Energy Expenditure. Mine is about 1450. Another story if anyone wants to know.
So my numbers were pretty high on the diagnosis in January, 7.4 mmol/l or 134 mg/dl. Maybe to some of you that is low but it is considered Diabetic so I hit the ground running. I was scared. My numbers gradually decreased, and my last HbA1c was very good at 6.2 mmol/l (safe range is 4.2 to 5.7). Today I'm getting numbers no higher than 6.0, and recently numbers like 5.4 and 5.2.
As a side benefit, I've lost 16 lbs. I don't miss the sugar at all, have learned to bake with Almond Flour, and I like Stevia as a sweetner in my coffee. Real Stevia by Purisure. Dr. Berg's videos have helped me the most, and also, Dr. Benjamin Bikman on Insulin Resistance which I'm convinced I had long before the T2 came along.
I so hope someone else is helped by this, Denise
PS I really don't exercise enough, but as my energy increases due to diet changes I've already made, and my body rejuvenates itself through those changes, I expect to be doing more. I am 68 and headed for a camping trip (tent-camping) with a friend to one of our Oregon lakes for a week of kayaking and just enjoying the outdoors with some friends, and my little dog Mimmie ;)
PSS forgot to mention my supplements: Magnesium, B Vitamins, C, D3, E, ALA, Taurine, Zinc

IR is something I am learning more about now, and realize I have probably had it for maybe, most of my life. I am 68 now. The doctors I've had over the years never once told me I was pre-diabetic, maybe because they never checked, and I've never been told I need an Insulin lab done. Conventional medicine does not usually call for that as far as I know. I believe Insulin Resistance is the beginning, and Type 2 Diabetes is one result of having it.
More later if anyone is interested.

NANO SOMA is a nano-emulsion of policosanol, commonly found in unrefined foods such as rice and cane sugar. Nano-policosanol, patented as Metadichol, triggers the body to heal itself. It seems to reverse many age-related diseases and pathogen-related diseases. There are numerous scientific studies on this seemingly miraculous natural particle. There are also many testimonials on the site.

They all took 10mg or more per day. They also changed their diets to lots of raw foods, no refined carbs.
Caution: Vanadium can directly affect your insulin need. Start with small doses and monitor your blood sugar closely at first.
