High cholesterol can be lowered by avoiding foods with trans fats in them. Trans fats tend to raise LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol. They are suspected of causing many health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and rigid arteries. In the ingredients list, if you see "partially hydrogenated" oils, do not eat.
