Blackstrap Molasses, Seaweed Snacks, Blood Builder for Anemia

A few years ago, I was hemorrhaging every 3 months. My OB/GYN ordered a blood test and scheduled me for an immediate ablation as my iron level was shocking low (she couldn't understand how I was still walking). After the procedure I visited my naturopath who recommended mega food blood builder, seaweed snacks and black strap molasses. For a couple weeks, I craved seaweed, then suddenly I couldn't stand the smell. Iron levels back to normal! I'm confidant they all helped. BTW another health guru warned me about the iron tabs most docs prescribe (the reason I went natural).

Sarsaparilla and Beetroot For Anemia

Sarsaparilla has been a game changer for managing my anemia. Taking the supplement alone, boosted my iron numbers back to the normal range. I randomly chanced upon the treatment from a YouTuber casually mentioning it… now I feel secure in no longer needing iron pills.

I also came across beetroot this year. It’s really improved my cognition and energy levels with this condition. I did not even know that my brain could function this well because I’ve been chronically anemic pretty much all my life. Anemia symptoms were my “normal, ” so I perceived my lethargy as laziness, difficulty with memory as a fault in my effort to memorize, and awkward speech and stutters as a speech impediment. Truly, I was just unwell.

When I have used these modalities to treat my anemia, all the symptoms are significantly minimized.

I am so blessed to feel empowered against this beast of a condition that oppressed me physically and emotionally for so long. My body, brain especially, has not been oxygenated like this in such a long time. —it feels so good to have more control over this condition. It literally felt like my life was enslaved by it and perpetually overcast with its symptoms.

Cheers to our journeys to better health. Wishing wellness to all.

Pomegranate Juice for Low Iron

When I was pregnant, my midwife said my iron was really low and wanted to put me on an iron supplement. I said give me a chance to research. So, I researched and found pomegranate juice would raise iron levels. I began drinking 4 oz fresh raw pomegranate juice once a day for the next 3 weeks and that is all I changed in my diet. When the midwife checked my iron levels, they were so high, she asked me what supplement I had taken! It works! I do not know if pasteurized works or not. You could always try.

B12 is very important in treating anemia and many other health problems, especially of the nervous system. I have a friend who got neuropathy from taking spirulina. Spirulina apparently contains B12 antigens which can make one severely B12 deficient. I personally have tried spirulina a few times, but always felt unwell on it. Chlorella has plenty of B12, iron, etc, and I take that, I feel really well on that. But, I also take a tiny tab of B12 over that, in case. Am veganese. I have a funny problem with iron. Doc says that the ferritin is low (after having mono), but when I take iron supplements, I get symptoms of hemochromatosis literally within a day, and worse fatigue than without taking the iron. Have started BSM recently, it is nice. But, the problem is weird. Perhaps it’s EMF sensitivity.

Multiple Remedies Failed Due to Inability to Absorb Iron

Nita (New Zealand) on 10/19/2019

When I was diagnosed anemic back in January, my doctor recommended a natural iron supplement and said come back in 3 months. 3 months later bloods dropped one point from 7 to 6 and it was thought there is a problem with iron absorption. I thought I’ll beat this. I took 2 T molasses a day, natural iron tabs, beets nearly every day and every other high iron food I could find.. 4 months later books have dropped to 4 and I’m dragging myself around or in bed. Doctor has suggested a parasite cleanse as I travel to developing countries every year, a colonoscopy to rule out internal bleeding and an iron infusion. Has anyone else had this experience of inability to absorb iron?

Blackstrap Molasses for Low Iron Levels

I like reading what others have to say about natural ways of healing the body, with what God has placed on earth for us to use.

I take a tsp. of BSM everyday and love it, my mom passed away last year at the age of 89, sometimes when she was in her 70s her Doctor would say her iron was low, after three months went by and each time going back to get tested, I told my sister to try Black Strap Molasses, until her next visit to a specialist the doctor wanted her to see, well each day I told my sister who lived with our mom, to give her 1 tsp. a day until the visit, that day came week and a half later, the lady doctor came out and said from moms doctor report of iron level 6 it was up to almost 10 and my sister told her what I suggested taking the BSM, and so the lady Doctor said well it sure was a good thing so keep it up. I sure am glad the natural worked for our mom, It truly was an answer to Prayer....

Beets, Dietary Changes for Anemia

Libraloveshealth (Los Angeles, California) on 02/27/2017

I have dealt with anemia over the years due to heavy periods and I also was doing dieting and wasn't taking any supplements. I recently had an anemia crisis, almost fainted one day, ice cravings, severe chest pain! I had to get myself back up together and finally got my iron levels right. I am taking a supplement 18mg iron gluconate a day. I also loaded up on beet juice which always helps and is a great remedy, I love to juice beets with carrots, orange and lemon. I didn't like doing this, but I had to go back to eating meat more often.

Beets, clams, liver and steak are the best for anemia. I tried the liver the first time the beef liver wasn't bad and it quickly helped me. Good vegetable sources are fennel(amazing for anemia, leeks, artichoke, mangoes(very good), pears and apricots. Oatmeal is a good source too. I hear spinach is good, but then I hear some things about it reducing iron.

I now am finally better, no more headaches, no more scary chest and leg pains, and I can now workout without feeling like I'm going to pass out after a few minutes. It will take time to get the levels back up but it is worth it. I started to feel better within a week. I usually know when my iron is low cause I start to crave these foods the clams, steak, liver, etc. so listen to your body it will let you know. Rubbing lemongrass oil on the soles of the feet and wrists is also helpful for anemia it is energizing. The tea is good for anemia too. Be careful with too much garlic it can cause anemia to worsen.

Blackstrap Molasses

I have suffered from anemia for a number of years. I find that the Blackstrap Molasses help to build the iron. I drink 1 tablespoon in the morning with 1/2 glass of milk. I drink one tablespoon in the evening before bedtime with 1/2 glass of milk. I suffer from AVM of the small intestines, it cannot be treated with surgery. Ever so often I bleed internally so it is important to keep my iron levels up. I cannot eat too many dark leafly vegetables because I am on Warfarin for artificial heart valves. Vitamin K. I prefer the Blackstrap Molasses over a blood transfusion anyday. I am 54 years old and 95 pounds. After 5 kids all grown except one. Does anyone out there have any recipes for smoothies. Thanks!

Lettuce is also very good for iron deficiency...I once heard of a man of 60 years who was supposed to go for a bypass (open heart surgery) but he decided to just eat 1 whole head of lettuce everyday. After 1 month he went back to the doctor and was told he didn't need the bypass.

Two of my children had anemia. We tried many iron supplements for several months and their iron levels barely moved up. I tried 1 teaspoon of blackstrap in chocolate rice milk once a day and within 2 months, their iron levels were normal.

Dietary Changes for Pernicious Anemia

Anonymous99 (Ogden, Ut) on 08/30/2014

Pernicious Anemia cures: Before B12 was isolated, the Nobel Prize was given for a diet. The abstract is below or you can search. January 1,1948; Blood: 3 (1)

TREATMENT OF PERNICIOUS ANEMIA BY A SPECIAL DIET

  1. GEORGE R. MINOT, M.D. and
  2. WILLIAM P. MURPHY, M.D.

Abstract

The dietetic treatment of pernicious anemia is of more importance than hitherto generally recognized.

Forty-five patients with pernicious anemia observed essentially in sequence are continuing to take a special diet that they have now been living on for from about six weeks to two years but which was temporarily omitted by three. This diet is composed especially of foods rich in complete proteins and iron—particularly liver —and containing an abundance of fruits and fresh vegetables and relatively low in fat.

Following the diet, all the patients showed a prompt, rapid and distinct remission of their anemia, coincident with at least rather marked symptomatic improvement, except for pronounced disorders due to spinal cord degeneration. Improvement was often striking, so that where the red blood cell count averaged for all before starting the diet 1,470,000 per cubic millimeter, one month afterward it averaged 3,400,000; and for the twenty-seven cases observed from four to six months after the diet was begun, the average count was 4,500,000 per cubic millimeter.

Patients having had two or more relapses showed on the average slightly lower red blood corpuscle counts about one and two months after commencing the diet than did those who had started it in their first or second relapse.

Change in the frequency of bowel movements, temporary increase of reticulocytes in the peripheral blood, and decrease of the icterus index of the blood serum were among the earliest signs that heralded the patient’s better health.

All the patients have remained to date in a good state of health except three, who discontinued the diet; two rapidly improved on resuming it and the other has just commenced it again. As the diet was advised for most of the patients less than eight months ago, enough time has not yet elapsed to determine whether or not the remissions will last any longer than in other cases.

Re: Iron

Re: iron tests: I just bought iron on the recommendation of my reflexologist. I came on line to read up on it and saw all of the e-mails. I just wanted to let everyone know that if they are worried about too much iron, a good way to find out, is to give blood. It is needed and they test your iron, blood pressure and temperature. It's a win, win, win, situation!!!!

Multiple Remedies to Treat Iron Deficiency Anemia

Karen ( Calgary, Alberta) on 01/22/2014
5 out of 5 stars

I believe I now have the solution, the secret for treating iron deficiency anemia. I suffered from anemia for a few decades from heavy bleeding due to fibroids. I had severe crippling fatigue and the confused or foggy mind state that accompanies it. Tests showed no other underlying sickness besides fibroids. Here's what to do.

1. To prevent hemorraghe at period time you MUST get into a habit of doing regular coffee enemas days and weeks beforehand (does not have to be everyday). It is simple and easy to do, A child can do it, don't let the words bother you. It's also very very relaxing. Go to the website drlwilson.com to see the method. I get the best results with Naya brand spring water (from my dollar store) and 2 tablesoons of columbian coffee (dollar store).

2. The last time I hemorrhaged, I took iron pills for 3 weeks but still felt terrible. Extreme exhaustion, fogginess. Then I went to a fitness store. They gave me a sample of liquid branch chain amino acids (BCAA). I was out of bed that evening, cooking, dancing in my house, happy. It was incredible! The next day I went to a fitness store and bought a liquid amino acid supplement with the full spectrum of essential amino acids. I only took some for maybe two days. Since then life has been great. No exhaustion whatsoever , my mind is crystal clear. I am fit and healthy. It may be hard to find a liquid supplement so I believe the soft chews they have is fine too. Don't use protein powder, not work effectively.

3. Continue taking your iron pills till you feel you don't need it anymore. I use floradix iron tablets once per day with vitamin c ( but I wish I never had to take any iron supplement)

4. Other supplements I take? I take a little powdered gelatin each day , from health food store or Knox. Great for health. Put tsp or so in tea or warm water or in foods or drinks. Very good on an empty stomach if you can.

- I take other vitamin and mineral supplements when I feel I need it

- chlorella gives me great energy

- Blackstrap Molasses, apple cider vinegar

- some days have instant oatmeal that is 70% iron fortified from walmart

- recently started taking some yellow dock

- eat nutritious healthy food, take milk products at different times than iron supplements and foods

The main things are the coffee enema, amino acid supplement ( short term when needed) and iron pills when needed

Enjoy your health

Iron Tablets Helping Weakness But Are They Safe?

Beverly (Riverside, California United States) on 06/01/2013

Does anyone know if taking over the counter IRON Tablets 65 mil. is safe?

3 days ago I was so weak that I could hardly get out of bed. A friend told me to try IRON Tablets so my husband went out and bought me a bottle. Within the first day I felt better! 3 days later I am outside doing decent yard work! I had not been able to work in my yard due to weakness.

I am wondering if taking a pill a day is safe? Anyone know? I wonder if I should cut the tablet in half to be safe? How long can I take Iron?

(I am the Beverly that wrote about having a cold head. Even my head is not bothering me as much now.)

Blackstrap Molasses for Higher Iron Levels

Stephie (Nc) on 05/18/2013

I had become anemic and had to be hospitalized to receive a blood transfusion. My iron levels were low to say the least. A friend recommended I try BSM in addition to taking iron pills. I took my iron pills with vitamin C, and I took another vit. C before drinking BSM in hot rasberry tea (which does not block iron absorbsion). I had a blood test on Friday and a follow-up on the following Friday. My iron level came up almost 100 points! After just 5 months of usage, I was in low normal range for the first time in 4 years! Now, one year later, I am in the middle of the normal range (just got a blood test in May 2013). I use 500mg, chewable vitamin C and BSM at night (a 2nd time in the day) when I feel a little more tired than usual.

Food for Anemia

Princess J. (Abingdon, Va, Usa) on 07/17/2012

Over my childhood (5 years old to 10 years old), I was anemic. My mom, having been raised in Louisiana, used a lot of the "known" foods from that region. Blackstrap Molasses, greens (mustard, turnip, collard), cream of wheat, calf liver (beef liver tends to be less tender than calf), and chicken livers. I was very healthy in those early years (not too bad now at age 62).

The only things I picked up in those few years? Chicken Pox, German Measles, and Tonsillitis resulting in the "dreaded" Tonsillectomy.

For years after I have used these food for the content of iron. And I thoroughly enjoy all those foods... As for the MOLASSES? Love it straight!!! And only found out about other types of syrup for pancakes/waffles etc. When I turned 10. Still prefer molasses (and only the Blackstrap) over anyother syrup!!!

Blackstrap Molasses and Blood Production

Black Strap Molasses / Anemia

When working in the hospital as the case manager for patients who would refuse blood transfusions (the majority of my patients were not for religous reasons, rather for health concerns) there would be some who the blood building drug EPO would not work.

According to the manufacturer guidelines, the TIBC (total iron binding capicity) study needed to be used and not the traditioinal iron stores that the docs typically asked for. When the EPO did not work, the TIBC was always low. On getting a doctors order and approval from the pharmacy, we gave one table spoon of BSM mixed with peanut butter three times a day.

We saw 3 grams per dl increase in RBC (red blood cell) counts in as little as 24 hours. It was not that the body was making blood miraculously as it takes 2 weeks for a stem cell (red blood cell wanna-be's) to mature, rather the theory was that the signaling that the blood would be available soon caused a release of shunted blood.

This happened in patients with hemaglobin blood counts as low as 2.9 (the lowest I case managed). Counts continued to rise for the next few days until they were at safe levels. Most were cancer patients. Research shows that avoiding blood transfusions decreases the risk of metastatic cancer. BSM makes this possible. None of my BSM doped patients returned with metastatic cancer. In time we discovered that EPO was not needed when there was no arthritis. The BSM worked on its own.

In over 600 patients I cared for, not only did none die, they often got out of the hospital faster (1/2 to 3 days) and cheaper than those who got blood. The oldest, a 79 year old woman, got out three days faster than a 35 year old who got blood, both with broken hips. More importantly, The BSM doped patients had lower morbidity (getting sick) and lower mortality (dying) rates that those who got blood.

It should be noted, the only way to get this care is to go to a hospital that specializes in advance transfusion practice or bloodless medicine care.

Now as a holistic nurse, this is one of the treatments of choice for many of my patients who have Risk for 'Altered Nutrition: Less than body requirement to maintain normal red blood cell count (this is a nursing diagnosis for someone who has a medical diagnosis of the various types of anmeia).'

For those with arthritis, I decrease the BSM to a teaspoon once a day and add one raw red beet to their weekly diet.

Dr Malawade (Belgaum, Karnataka, india) on 05/04/2012

Anemia is a condition in which your blood has a lower than normal number of red blood cells. The normal level of haemoglobin is generally different in males (13.5 gms/100ml) and females (12gms/100ml).
It is directly or indirectly responsible for many diseases. This is because the lowered oxygen carrying capacity of the blood leads to poor oxygenation of tissue, which in turn results in degenerative changes and a general drop in immunity. As Ayurvedic Practitioner and doctor I have seen many cases of Anemia and the results of treatment using different allopathic, Homeopathic and Ayurvedic (herbal) remedies.
Allopathy may reduce the symptoms of anemia like generalised weakness but will not help in underlying causes for anemia.
Homeopathic remedies for anemia can be prescribed on the patient's constitution along with herbal remedies. This is very effective but success generally depends upon the doctor's ability to pick the right remedy for the patient.

Some of them are:
China 30; Chinin sulph 30; Cuprum met 30; Ferrum met 6x; Ferrum proh 6x; Nat mur 6x; Phos 200; Phos AC. 30, Allium Cepa 1X; Hyssopus Officinalis 1X; Avena Sativa 2X; Urtica Urens 2X; Paloondo 2X; Zingiber Officinale 3X; Trifolium Pratense 3X; Melilotus Alba 3X; Camphora 4X; Capsicum Annuum 5X; Magnesia Phosphorica 6X; Juglans Regia 6X; Pyrogenium 9X.
New resonance homeopathy has excellent homeopathic remedies like
Potentized Bioenergetic Impressions of Liver tissue (lyophilized) 500. 0; L- ascorbic acid (vitamin C) 100.0; Iron (aspartate) 30.0; Niacine (vitamin B3) 30.0; Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) 5.0; Copper (aspartate) 2.0; Folic acid. 40 (400mcg); Cobalamin (vitamin B12). 10 (100mcg)
Ayurveda also has numerous herbs and medicines to correct the Anemia and underlying causes and give lasting relief from Anemia.
In my experience the best results come from taking Ayurvedic herbs and homeopathic remedies (classical and resonance) together. You may get details at biogetica.com

My wife is pregnant and is also anemic (has come very close to fainting) and is also hypoglycemic (coconut oil has helped along with snacks throughout the day). She has been taking iron supplements even before she was told to. My mom told me about Blackstrap Molasses from earthclinic which we both visit often but of course overlooked anemia here. My wife has been taking Blackstrap Molasses for about 5-6 weeks now and the doctor called this morning, her iron levels are going up (still low though) and said if she keeps at the amount she has been doing she should be fine by delievery (will continue to take it after also). I have also noticed she is much more clear-headed and alert now, the hemoglobin is finally starting to be able to do its job! Thanks for everyone's posts.
