What Causes A Vitamin B 12 Deficiency?

Posted By Susan (UTAH) on 07/25/2022

Recent bloodwork shows very low B 12 levels. And D3 level of 90. Symptoms include low energy, muscle weakness and weight gain. Only medication is small amount of thyroid medication (Levothyroxine).

Any ideas on what can cause it? Dr wants me to stop D3 for three months and take 1000 B 12.

Low vitamin B12, if not deficiency of course, could be from liver trouble, gut infections with B12 using microbes, or pernicious anemia. could be other things that I don't know

Elevated vitamin D may be from :

You are more likely to develop hypervitaminosis D if you take vitamin D supplements and have other existing health problems, such as:

  • kidney disease
  • liver disease
  • tuberculosis
  • hyperparathyroidism
  • sarcoidosis
  • histoplasmosis
