DMSO for Hydrocephalus

Posted By Tom (Sarasota, Fl) on 05/23/2016

I am experimenting with DMSO on my scalp.

I have discovered that I have what appears to be excess spinal fluid in my Brain as shown by MRI. Doctors advise a two tube shunt system to drain the excess fluid. This condition is said t be caused by a blockage to the natural draining of un-needed spinal fluid. I have only applied some gel three times so far to my scalp to counter herpes there and it is working very well. I am concerned about the DMSO delivering the herpes to the brain, Or is it possible that the DMSO can kill the herpes AND free up the flow of spinal fluid releasing the pressure in my brain.I have no dizziness but do have balance and gait problems and some bladder issues. I am a 76 year old male.

Tom;

I think you raise a valid question because DMSO is a carrier and could transport the virus past the blood brain barrier if it comes in contact with the area where the virus is located...or even close to it, in my opinion. The fact that DMSO is a potent carrier is enough to give pause in using it with your condition.

Tom;

By the way...(I responded to your post about using DMSO while you were treating your scalp for herpes).

It occurred to me to just ask you; have you made sure the hydrocephalus is not being CAUSED by the virus. If me, I'd demand the doctors test the drainage to insure there is not a virus causing the problem (the herpes virus migrating into the brain). Of course, they will instantly say, no way, etc. But I wouldn't believe it unless you know for a fact that the drainage preceded the infection by a long span of time. I'd go to the trouble of getting a second opinion on this if the treating guys are not cooperative. Just a thought.

While DMSO is a carrier, it is also a natural anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Therefore, I would find it highly unlikely that it would 'carry' the virus to your brain.

Hello Ben,

I'm interested in what you said about DMSO; I've long been a fan of its uses. It is known for its carrying ability. If you have a site on its ability to kill a virus or bacteria which would outweigh its ability to carry is the issue. I can't find such a site. Please advise if you have some good source like Pub Med. Would love to confirm your thinking. Thanks.
