Tried several times and wants to go gluten free

Posted By Healthseeker (Usa) on 05/27/2014

Can anyone else relate to my post? I have tried many times to stop eating grains, but after a week or so it is very difficult to have a BM. What is normal daily turns into several days not being able to go. I want to stop eating wheat especially because I know I have digestive issues and food sensitivities and feel better when I don't eat wheat. I have also tried taking b vitamins but that doesn't help. Also, it seems taking baking soda and borax also makes it worse. Can it be candida or liver issues as well? I also want to follow the candida protocol. Any help will be welcomed, thanks in advance.

Hello Healthseeker;

Loss of fiber when going wheat free.

In my opinion the problem is a fiber loss issue and you have to substitute with enough fiber rich vegetables/nuts and non gluten grains. I, too have found I must be off gluten products. I substitute split peas (soup)...salads with lots of roughage; and I like to steam broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower together for a few minutes...and if you blend them and add some vegetable stock, a great soup. Sweet potatoes are fine for a low gluten diet. And most all fruits and nuts are OK. The above has a LOT of fiber. But the best thing to fulfill the "fiber need" is that I'm approved for BLUE corn chips (organic), and flax and millet are ok and can find breads with the high fiber but non gluten content if made with flax and millet.

Also I'm ok for all "nuts" except peanuts. All fruit except bananas are ok. But I am NOT approved for the "bean" family (split peas is the exception)...about 30 items are off limit including the gluten items...mine is apparently a carb issue in addition to a gluten issue.

But already, in two months of this, I have eliminated what I thought was a food allergy...any tomato/ chili products. So now I can eat without inhibition my own (award winning chili...not that I would brag or anything). So hot, with real chili in a deep, rich dark base, with over 20 ingredients added...just a little sour cream on top with some grated sharp cheese....but once again, when I think on food, I just get OFF on a tangent, and really can't help myself.

Where was I?

Oh yes; you can get lots of fiber...plenty to fulfill the digestive needs but you have to focus on the vegetables and fiber fruits. Eating the apple WITH the peal. Eating the sweet potato WITH the skin. Whole seeds. Etc.

I've had NO elimination issues with my highly restricted "new" diet life; but I do focus on making sure fiber is eaten regularly (if I may use the word "regular" in this context).

Dave, may we have the recipe with the twenty ingredients, please?

On another note, Dave I want to thank you for your very kind posts. You have given me a remedy that is not so common: an uplift that has made a big difference by your helpfulness and patience. I am now first opting for a hair analysis while taking silver with other supplements. I am also indebted to Bill from the Philippines and Mama to Many.

Namaste, Om

I am gluten intolerant and I have a solution for you and a tasty one at that. I don't recall which web site I got it from but it was paleo. I make a flax pancake almost daily. 4 Tbl.(1/4c.) ground flax (you can buy it ground, but I buy bulk and grind it myself in my coffee grinder-remember it goes rancid quickly after grinding-I only do a weeks worth) 1/8 tsp. baking powder (not soda) a pinch of salt if you like. 1 egg beaten, 2 TBLs. milk or cream(I use coconut milk-most gluten intolerant sufferers also have dairy allergies) 1 tsp. oil(I use coconut oil-I melt more in the pan I cook in and use that) Mix together and cook over med. heat. This will not cook like a regular pancake but cooks more like an omelet so takes less time. Very tasty. I put pure maple syrup on it or unsweetened apple sauce. It tastes whole grain like. Drink a lot of water throughout the day to help it out. I sometimes add other things to this for variety such as unsweetened coconut. enjoy.

Dear Om,

I trust you will let us know how the hair analysis goes. That sounds like a good idea and it is always encouraging to have a plan of action!

I am looking forward to Dave's chili recipe, too!

Mmsg mentioned options for free range and well treated chicken eggs. I wish I could share our eggs with you. Our chickens live a very easy chicken life on pasture, a cozy coop in the winter, and protection from foxes and coyotes from our guard dog. We have even brought a chicken or two into the house to warm up in a box near the woodstove because they seemed at risk for a frostbitten comb when we have had extremely cold weather. Anyway, I don't know if you have that kind of option where you live. But it sounds like you are finding food sources in spite of difficulties!

Keep us posted!

Have a super day!

~Mama to Many~
