Should Turmeric Be Taken With a Probiotic?

Greetings,

Turmeric is antibacterial so, how does the positive gut bacterial react to it?

Should we take probiotic with or in between consumption?

Thank you.

Dear Looking for Answer,

Regarding your question about the effect of Turmeric on the good gut bacteria - I think it is a valid and excellent question!

I have no scientific studies to back up my thoughts, only personal experience. My family uses turmeric A LOT! For certain conditions, we have used it daily for weeks. And I have never seen a family member suffer from any type of yeast infection following such a treatment, as is common with chemical anti-biotics. (The same goes for regular use of garlic, another anti-bacterial herb/food. We have used it extensively for infections and have never seen it cause a secondary yeast infection.)

That said, I don't think a pro-biotic would be a bad idea. Using natural pro-biotics, as found in kefir and kombucha is a great health practice anyway.

Just my two cents.
