Baking Soda Cause an Underarm Rash

Posted By Nickie (Ok) on 08/05/2015

Hi, I recently have been looking in natural deodorants as I wanted to protect myself from breast cancer and was tired of ugly stain on t shirts. I started with baking soda, but after a week or so it has made my armpit dark and leathery and slightly itchy. What can I use to clear this up? I do not shave, as I have been using an epilator for a year or so. I was also working on lightening my underarms with lemon or coconut oil. This is a major setback please help. Thanks

Dear Nickie,

The exact same thing happened to my son. We used a calendula cream and it helped overnight. (Ours was homemade, but a health food store may have some.)

Other deodorant alternatives would be - magnesium oil, witch hazel, or just alcohol on a cotton ball.
